💜 We’ve been a little quiet on social media this week… and now we know why!

As we wrapped up some of our recent service statistics, one thing became very clear — WE HAVE BEEN BUSY!

Between providing crisis services, advocating for victims, connecting individuals and families with resources, and continuing our community outreach, our team has had a lot happening behind the scenes!

While we love sharing information and raising awareness, our first priority will always be the individuals and families who turn to us for help.

We are incredibly thankful for the continued support of our community. Whether you attend our events, share our posts, make a donation, or simply help spread awareness, you are helping us continue this important work.

October may be Domestic Violence Awareness Month, but for our team, this work happens every single day of the year. 💜

We are incredibly fortunate to have Yvonne leading the Advocacy & Resource Center. Her passion for this work goes far beyond the services we provide. She pours her heart into the Center, the people we serve, and the staff who show up every day to do this important work.

She leads with compassion, strength, dedication, and a genuine commitment to making sure both our clients and our team are supported.

This work isn't always easy, but having someone like Yvonne guiding us makes all the difference.

She doesn't just lead a team of advocates. She is a warrior herself! 💜

We’re encouraging our Sheridan community to wear 𝗣𝗨𝗥𝗣𝗟𝗘 tomorrow, October 15, in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month!

Purple is the color of domestic violence awareness, and wearing it is a simple way to show solidarity with survivors, raise awareness, and help keep an important conversation going.

💜 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗼𝗿𝘀.
Here’s what we’ve learned so far:
💜 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆. A victim may still communicate with or see an abuser while still experiencing very real fear or danger.
💜 𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿. Abuse is often a pattern of behaviors used to gain or maintain power and control over another person.
💜 𝗠𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘀, 𝘁𝗼𝗼. Domestic violence can happen to anyone, regardless of gender.
💜 𝗔𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹. Financial abuse can create powerful barriers to independence and safety, especially in rural communities.
💜 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. The risk of violence can increase when an abusive partner feels they are losing control.
💜 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀. Supporting survivors and taking a stand against domestic violence can start simply by showing your community that you care.
