On June 1, 2026 we hosted the students who completed Boys State and Girls State in May. Legion Post 30 paid the tuition of 8 eight Sheridan Junior girls to Girls State and 3 Junior boys to Boys State. The students and families were invited to this reception in their honor. Here is a photo of those who attended the reception. Excuse the pole and the absence of names left to right since I'd just get the names wrong.

American Legion B-17 Memorial Park Visit/Tour

The following poem was submitted in 2024 by Sheridan Intermediate School Student 5th Grader Cooper Lee Henderson after their class field trip tour guide asked the students to write something related to their tour. I found this and decided it needed to become part of our Post history files. This was based on a story that the father whose son died in the B-17 plane crash in May, 1943 had shared with the Post about his son's last conversation with his father.

********************************************************************

At the station with my son so dear,

Eating ice cream, the music in the air,

"White Christmas" plays a bittersweet sound,

As my Son's words echo, so profound.

"When I get back from war, he says to me,

"We'll come right back for more ice cream you'll see."

But as he boards the train and waves goodbye,

Tears fill my eyes; I can't help but cry.

Days turned to weeks, weeks into years,

But my son's voice still rings in my ears,

The ice cream we shared, now tastes of pain,

For he never returned from wars cruel reign.

I made a promise in sorrow's embrace,

To never taste ice cream, to honor his grace.

But I hold onto hope, through joy and despair,

That one day in Heaven, we'll share it there.
