Phulpati (Phool Pati) or Fulpati is the seventh day of Dashain, the biggest Hindu festival in Nepal and parts of the Nepali speaking populace of India. This year, it fell on October 2nd and is a major celebration marked by procession of people dressed in traditional attire.
The day is marked by honoring Goddess Durga with nine types of Phulpati (petals of flowers). The day celebrates the auspicious uncovering of truth over falsehoods and divinity over terror. As per Hindu mythology, the nine plants represent the arrival of goddesses into the homes of the devotees.
Traditionally, on this day, the royal Kalash, banana stalks, jamara, and sugar cane tied with red cloth is brought by Magars from Gorkha, a three-day walk, about 169 kilometres (105 mi) away from the Kathmandu Valley.
Wishing everyone on behalf of Homestay Association of Sikkim a very Happy Dasai. May peace and prosperity prevail.
