Lagniappe Center equips and employs low-income parents to create pet beds which are then given to animal shelters.

Sheridan, WY-based non-profit ministry that co-creates financial futures for families through employment, training, and mentorship of low-income parents alongside the local church Because poverty doesn't just affect a family financially, a key component of this program is spending a portion of the paid work week in supportive education & programming that will equip the whole person and foster the trainees' long-term independence. To this end, volunteers and community partnerships provide professional counseling, parenting classes, financial literacy, nutrition & cooking classes, GED tutoring, spiritual formation, and commercial sewing training. Lagniappe is a pilot program and needs YOUR passionate support to be successful! Grace Anglican Church is our sponsoring organization, providing space, prayer support, and bookkeeping services until we can establish our own donor base, board, and bylaws. 🐾 From Scraps to Snuggles 🐾

At Lagniappe, we love a good second-chance story. 💙

Some of our handmade pet beds begin with upholstery fabric samples donated by Carroll’s Furniture and surplus foam from Kennon. These are quality materials that might otherwise be discarded, but our trainees turn those leftovers into something useful, beautiful, and cozy.

And here’s the really fun part: Carroll’s Furniture sells the finished pet beds in their store! What started as a box of upholstery samples makes its way full circle—from Carroll’s, to Lagniappe, and back to Carroll’s—while giving a parent the opportunity to build sewing skills through paid training.

♻️ Materials get a second life.
🧵 Parents gain meaningful work experience.
🤝 Local businesses invest in local families.
🐾 And pets get a cozy place to rest (whether they’re already home or still waiting for one at the Dog & Cat Shelter.)

It’s a small example of what can happen when a community looks at what it has and asks, “What could this become?”

Sometimes scraps become something worth snuggling into. 🐾💙

Many of our graduates move into full-time employment with benefits in four to six months—not because someone handed them success, but because they worked hard and were given the opportunity to succeed.

💙 Every Child Deserves to Carry Their Story with Dignity. 💙

When a child enters foster care, the transition can happen quickly and bring a lot of uncertainty. In those moments, even something as simple as how a child carries their belongings can communicate something important: You matter. You are worth caring for.

That’s why we’re grateful for the work of Sheridan Foster Parent Exchange and honored to partner with them by sewing Belonging Bags. These sturdy canvas bags are handmade by Lagniappe trainees—parents who are earning income, developing job skills, and building greater stability for their families.

🌱 Helping Kids Garden — and Trainees Grow 🌱

There’s something beautiful about one simple project nurturing two futures. 💛

At Lagniappe Center, our trainees sew durable, child-sized gardening aprons for Rooted in Wyoming's school and community gardens across our area.

Those aprons end up in the hands of kids who are digging in the soil, discovering where their food comes from, and learning alongside their classmates and neighbors. 👩‍🌾

And at the same time, the parents sewing those aprons are gaining practical job skills, earning wages through paid training, and growing in confidence with every stitch. 🧵

Each apron represents:

👩‍🌾 A child learning through hands-on experience

🧵 A parent building real-world skills

🌿 A community investing in its future

We love projects that do more than accomplish a task.

They create opportunities.

They connect people.

And they remind us that when meaningful work and community needs come together, everyone has a chance to grow. 🌻

💙 Thank You, Mark Law! 💙

After five years of service on the Lagniappe board, we're celebrating and thanking Mark Law for the many ways he has helped shape and champion this ministry.

Mark was one of the first people I told about the idea for Lagniappe back in 2020. As I became increasingly convinced that this idea might be both reasonable and a sincere calling, something worthy of prayerful discernment, I spent a New Year's Eve weekend alone at the Law family's cabin, wrestling, praying, and thinking about what Lagniappe might become.

Five years later, Mark has been part of the story in countless ways.

He's been a champion and a connector, always ready to introduce Lagniappe to someone who might need to know about our work. He's also been my unofficial go-to person for gadget research (because apparently running a nonprofit requires an expert opinion on every piece of technology known to humankind). 😂

But perhaps one of Mark's greatest gifts is his ability to gently challenge you while remaining completely in your corner. He asks good questions, sees possibilities, and isn't afraid to offer a different perspective—all while making it clear that he wants you and the mission to succeed.

Mark, thank you for believing in Lagniappe before there was much to believe in, for lending your wisdom and entrepreneurial mind, for opening doors, asking good questions, and faithfully cheering us on. Those who know Mark see him live out the Gospel in front of family, friends, and strangers in ways that show up in his schedule, pocketbook, dinner table, and cabin.

We're deeply grateful for your five years of board service and even more grateful that you have been part of the Lagniappe story from so near the beginning.

💡 Investing in Lasting Change

Emergency help matters. Sometimes, though, lasting change takes something more: time, stability, meaningful work, and people who are willing to keep showing up. 💛

That’s what happens at Lagniappe Center.

One trainee entered our program as a single mom who had dropped out of high school. Sixteen weeks later, she had earned her GED, developed valuable job skills, and stepped into a full-time job with benefits.

It didn’t happen overnight.

It happened through consistent support, meaningful work, and the opportunity to earn wages while learning.

That’s why recurring giving is so powerful.

A gift of $55/month provides roughly one week of paid training for a Lagniappe trainee. One week may not sound like much—but sixteen weeks of steady opportunity can help someone reach a very different place.

🌱 A week to learn.
🧵 A week to build skills.
💼 A week to prepare for employment.
💙 A week to keep moving forward.

When supporters give month after month, they're not just funding a paycheck.

They're helping provide the stability that makes transformation possible.

And week by week, it adds up to something much bigger.

💼 What If a Fresh Start Came With a Paycheck?

For many parents, moving toward a better future isn't as simple as finding a job.

They may need time to build skills, confidence, education, and a stronger foundation for their family—all while still making ends meet.

That's part of why Lagniappe's approach is different. 💙

Our trainees earn $18.50/hour while participating in full-time, hands-on vocational training. They're not asked to put their lives on hold to prepare for a better future.

Instead, they're paid while they learn.

Along the way, they gain:
🧵 Practical job skills
🤝 Mentoring and encouragement
📚 Life and financial skills
🌱 Confidence and stability

And eventually, they're ready to take that next step into long-term employment.

Because sometimes people don't need another quick fix.

They need an opportunity to learn, grow, and move forward—without having to choose between today's needs and tomorrow's possibilities.
