Sunglasses

Have you ever ask why blind and low vision people where sunglasses?

Well, we wear them to protect our eyes just like sighted people do, just in a different way.

Because when you're blind, you don't keep the sun from your eyes to keep from hurting them, but to keep the UV rays off of your skin. It also keeps things from poking your eyes because you can't see what's coming out your face. The sunglasses protect your eyes!

I wear my sunglasses all the time because I have sustained injury to my eyes after not wearing them.

And we can look forward to all kinds of sunglasses! They don't have to just be the boring kind: we can have Ray-Ban's or any kind of sunglasses and look cool.

Never be afraid to wear sunglasses. It’s not stereotypical, it's protection for your face and your eyes!

Recipes for the Blind

I love a good recipe!

I was thinking about where I find the best recipes, like the ribs recipes that I can read either with my fingers, as in Braille, or via verbal audio recipes.

There's a couple ways to find recipes: there’s the National Braille Press, who sell a lot of recipe books that are in braille. Then you can also find recipes on your echo dot or on your smart phone and it can take you line by line to go through the recipe.

I like the five ingredients or less recipes! It’s better because you don't have to keep it in your head. You can go line by line one ingredient at a time and follow the recipe to the letter.

I guarantee you'll have a great product at the end so bon appétit!

Blind Athletes

Have you ever thought that you couldn't be an athlete because you're visually impaired?

Well think again! There are many blind athletes out there: runners, golfers, hockey players, mixed martial artists, and triathlon participants.

There are also people who lift weights and run marathons, so if you ever think that you can't be an athlete because you're visually impaired, think again! Go out and be the athlete you want to be!

Personally, I'm a martial artist. I know karate, aikido, kickboxing, as well as other types of self-defense. I love being active and participating with others who are just as active as I am. I also have run several 5Ks and 10Ks and currently I’m trying to train for the half marathon goal.

Find the athlete in you!

70% of working-age adults who are blind or visually impaired face sustained periods of unemployment.

We believe in creating a workplace that values individual differences and prioritizes inclusion. That's why we're proud to announce the successful launch of a program in partnership with IFB Solutions to hire people, like Maggie, who are blind or visually impaired for full-time contact center work.

This program is a great step forward in providing real employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
