As we celebrate the 136th anniversary of the founding of our National Society, we come together for the tenth annual National DAR Day of Service and the culmination of our DAR Month of Service! The multitude of projects our Daughters are participating in this weekend speak to our commitment to communities across the Nation and, as we have done for the past 136 years, we will continue to pursue our mission of Historic Preservation, Education and Patriotism. Happy Anniversary DAR!

in 1765, delegates from nine colonies met in New York to respond to the Stamp Act, a British tax on nearly every printed document in colonial American life.

It was one of the first times representatives from multiple colonies united in protest, a decade before the American Revolutionary War began.

Their demands were clear: with no voice in Parliament, Britain had no right to tax them.

Fun fact about the POW/MIA Flag:
The third Friday in sept is recognized as POW/MIA Recognition Day, a time to remember the sacrifices of prisoners of war (POW) and service members who are missing in action (MIA). In 1971 a military spouse named Mary Hoff contacted a private company to request a flag to honor those missing in action or prisoners of war (one of whom was her husband). A World War II pilot named Newt Heisley created the now-iconic design for the flag which features a black background with a white silhouette of a prisoner of war in front of a guard tower and barbed wire, with the letters “POW/MIA” above and the words “You Are Not Forgotten” below.

Pack Horse Ford ladies: Joyce Englebright, Marlynn Keesecker, Lois Kimble, Emilie Pratt, and Susan Benson were part of the Declaration of Independence renacting and celebration on Saturday, July 11 at the General Adam Stephen historic house in Martinsburg WV. A courier came riding in on a horse and gave the Declaration to the sheriff, played by John Fleagle of SAR. He read it to the crowd, many of whom were in Colonial dress. They cheered for America and listened as he read. Some of the SAR men including Mike Benson, Marty Keesecker, Steve Englebright organized the celebration. Thank you to all who came to celebrate America!🇺🇸
