In the backroom of Rowe Hall lay board games, video games and decorations for CMU Museum’s exhibit.

Right when you walk in, there’s a bear statue holding a dice, and various classic games on display.

The exhibit is “Magic Circles: Society through Game Spaces” and is in partnership with the Center for Learning through Games and Simulations.

Welcome to the Shepherd Area Historical Society chat. This week, I thought I would start with a topic that is probably on everybody's mind: the Shepherd Maple Syrup Festival, which is coming up in a couple of weeks. What are some of your most cherished memories from the festival? What are some of your earliest memories? This could be from attending or volunteering.

I wanted to share this video I produced last year to promote our efforts to repair the roof and other parts of the Powerhouse Museum. In the video, a ghost which lives in the Powerhouse Museum is upset to learn that all of the exhibits are being removed to keep them safe while the repairs are completed to the roof. The ghost searches for other places to haunt, but ultimately decides to return to the Powerhouse, the home he prefers.

In the end, he is assisted by one of the members of the historical society. I see this as a strong parallel to the society's mission and the contribution that members make to our community. Our goal is to preserve the history of our area and of our residents. Can you imagine a world without people or a resource you could turn to for answers to questions about how things were 50 or 100 years ago? Or to find, much like the ghost did, that the museums were no longer available?

As members of the Shepherd Area Historical Society, we are dedicated towards making sure that this work continues, and that there continues to be museums in which to store artifacts and records from Shepherd's past. We're grateful for the support we've received for the repairs to the roof, and hope that more people can join in on our mission.

If you are interested in volunteering or joining the Shepherd Area Historical Society, please message the page or send me a direct message. I hope that you enjoy the video and that we'll see you later today during the Pig Roast.

Note: The web address given at the end of the video no longer works. Our website is now at http://www.shepherdareahistoricalsociety.net.
