Hard to believe we have been doing Toys for Girls and Boys for 10 years now. In that time we have helped provide a better Christmas morning for over 2000 children in Southwest Iowa.
When I started this program with the help of the Shenandoah Elks Lodge and the community, we wanted to bring joy to children on Christmas morning with gifts from Santa Claus. Over the years the program got a little bit off track and started buying all sorts of gifts for kids all the way up to 17 years old.
As with any organization, there is only so much money that can be raised and used for the organization's purpose. For Toys for Girls and Boys we need to get back to what our intentions were, and what it says in our name TOYS for girls and boys.
So for the future of our organization we will only be providing toys to children 12 years old and younger. Our goal has always been for parents and/or guardians to pick out a couple toys that their children could open on Christmas morning. These gifts are wrapped and say from Santa Claus on them.
Simply put we just can't afford to buy the more expensive gifts that teenagers are looking for.
Thank you to all of our supporters over the years! We greatly appreciate the community coming together to help less fortunate children in the area, and help them enjoy the magic of Christmas!!!
