Shenandoah Optimist Club met Tuesday, May 21 at the Depot Deli with President Dennis Gates presiding, opening invocation by Rusty Hunter followed by the pledge to the U flag. A thank you note was received and noted from Abigale Martin. Saturday, June 15 is the fishing derby at Pioneer Park. Golf Ball Drop tickets are available for sale.
Larry Anderson introduced Jay Sweet, Shenandoah High School building class instructor as our morning guest. Jay said the class started out with 12 students last fall, but with the work study program, the class shrunk to just 4. Even with the problem, Jay said the house on Sheridan is now complete, after three years. The comment was made that maybe the house should have been completely demolished, but good results are now visible. The building class received training in foundation repair, brick and mortar, lumber construction, roofing, window replacement, plumbing, heating and air conditioning and many more. We congratulate Jay and his building class for completing this project.

Say Hello to our newest Optimist member Bill Selby. Welcome Bill.

Good Morning Optimistic people of the Facebook world 🌎
What a great morning of special guest speakers this morning. Joleen Jorgensen, the lt Governor of zone 3 for the Optimist gave us an update of what’s going on and to congratulate us for our growing number of members. The Shenandoah Optimist currently has 45 members 🎉.
Our next guest was Matt Dollison. Matt is the DNR of southwest Iowa serving in six counties.
Matt gave us an update of the Admiral Trail. If you haven’t walked this trail, it’s a must to check out. The volunteers have worked hard clearing, cleaning up the trail whichever will eventually connect to Shenandoah.
Zach McGargill attended and thanked everyone for the “Friend of youth” award. Both Zach and his wife Minnie won the 2023 Friend of youth Award during the Cross country banquet.
As always, the Optimist would love to have anyone stop in and see what the Optimist are all about.
