Every year one of our amazing dispatchers, Michael, from our Mason County 911 bargaining unit, volunteers 2 weeks of his time to help out at Camp Wapiyapi, a camp for children with pediatric cancer and their siblings. This camp offers the child with cancer and their siblings a few days of fun and games and their parents a chance to take a breath and relax. We can't think of a more noble cause so we made a donation through our benevolent fund made and we are spreading the word about this amazing place. The Board of Commissioners for Mason County Fire District #5 / Central Mason Fire & EMS has approved a resolution to place a fire levy renewal on the August 4, 2026, Primary Election ballot. This is not a new tax, it will restore the current fire levy approved in 2022.

If approved, it would reset the fire levy rate to $1.48 per $1,000 of assessed property value and authorize setting the limit factor at 104% for each of the following three years. The $0.29 increase over the current levy rate of $1.19 would be used to maintain current service levels. This will help with operational costs due to increasing inflation costs for fuel, fire equipment, etc.

With an increase of $0.29 per $1,000 of assessed value, a home assessed at $350,000, would only pay an additional $8.46 per month or $101.50 per year.

Last week members went south to Oregon City, OR and attended the Trail’s End Fire Conference.

They took Vent Enter Search’s Can Confidence and Brothers in Battle’s D.I.Y. Engine.

Learning new skills and techniques to bring back and pass on to our members and provide some training at our training center/ training grounds.
