Sweet old growth hike on the Skokomish Lower South Fork Trail this weekend. Thanks to an MCCJ volunteer for leading us, to the youth and adults who joined, and to the forest for providing cool shade and beautiful wonder.

This area is part of the Olympic National Forest, managed by the U.S. Forest Service, in a type of area known as “Late Successional Reserve” (LSR). LSRs are areas that were previously set aside for restoring old growth forest conditions. Now, the Trump Administration is trying to remove those protections and open areas like this old growth up for logging.

We’d like to give a huge thanks to the amazing crew of volunteers who showed up Monday to support our food forest and community garden at the Hoodsport Timberland Library! 🌱

Over 15 volunteers, including 10 from the Washington Conservation Corps Belfair crews, helped build new garden beds, add soil, and spread mulch in preparation for a new growing season. This WCC-initiated work party was a big success, and we’re so grateful for this new collaboration!

We’d also like to give a huge shout-out to our former MCCJ intern Lexie, super-volunteer Tim, community partners Claudia and Kenneth, our CSMC youth leaders who traveled all the way from Shelton, and our newest youth volunteer as well. We couldn’t have done it without you all! 💚

If you’d like to participate in the growth of this community space, please reach out to our Community Development Manager at [email protected] for more information on how you can be involved!
