URGENT ACTION ALERT TO PROTECT OLD GROWTH AND SKOKOMISH CULTURAL RESOURCES:

WA State DNR wants to log more than 50 documented old growth trees in ancestral Skokomish territory near Lilliwaup as part of their proposed “Sparta Timber Sale.”

While these trees may seem small, they are actually 200-300 years old, as documented with core sampling by Legacy Forest Defense Coalition. Furthermore, although some of the old growth trees are tagged blue, which usually indicates a protected leave tree, many are located in the path of road-building, meaning that the highest bidder has the right to log them anyway.

DNR has not consulted with the Skokomish Tribal Council about destroying irreplaceable cultural resources. Instead, DNR has issued an initial “Determination of Non-Significance” (DNS) claiming that there will be no significant environmental or cultural harm caused by logging these 115 acres of forest.

Take action TODAY by telling DNR to cancel the Sparta Timber Sale, protect literal old growth, and consult properly with the Skokomish Tribal Council!
