The Robert A. Welke Cancer Research Foundation

Bob Welke was 36 years old with a wife, three children, and was Senior Vice President at D.W. Van Dyke & Company when he was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) in 1993. During treatment at Westchester Medical Center, Bob was inspired by the research being conducted at Brander Cancer Research Institute and knew he had to get involved. Van Dyke behind him, he founded the Robert A. Welke Cancer Research Foundation that same year. An avid golfer, Bob did what any golfer would do — he turned to the course. He played 100 holes in a single day at Brooklawn Country Club and raised over $65,000. The next year, he did it again at the Country Club of Fairfield, raising another $60,000 over the two-day event. Bob lost his fight with leukemia in March 1996. The tournament he started has never stopped. Van Dyke have hosted Links to a Cure in his memory. We are pleased to continue Bob’s effort to support the RAW Cancer Research Foundation with our 30th annual charity golf tournament on Monday, September 28th, 2026, at the Country Club of Darien.
