Pioneer Community Food Bank

Pioneer Community Food Bank The Pioneer Community Food Bank is open every third Thursday of the month in the Pioneer Middle School cafeteria. We can do better than ramen!

Our mission is to provide healthful, “whole” foods to residents in the Pioneer School District in need of food. Given the strong correlation between poverty and overweight/obesity, providing nutritious and unrefined foods to clients is an important step to improve health in our community. Also, we are excited to implement the "Commodities into Meals" program this year, which will teach clients of

the Pioneer Food Bank to prepare meals based on bulk foods and government commodities utilizing slow-cookers. We will feature new recipes each month and the Food $ense nutrition educators will be on hand to give out samples of the recipes. Please let us know if you have a Crock-Pot or slow cooker to donate to the new program. Thank you to Mason Matters, the Bridge Community Church, the Mason County Democratic Party, Saints' Pantry Food Bank, and all of our wonderful volunteers for making the the PCFB possible!

Thank you very much to our donors and volunteers for making the December 15th distribution a success. We served over 120 people- our biggest number yet, and 15 new families also signed up. There is definitely a need for a food bank in the Pioneer Community!

We were able to distribute 34 recipe packets for vegetable chili with brown rice, and 34 packets for oatmeal with dried fruit and nuts, along with five donated slow-cookers. We also gave out fresh broccoli, baby carrots, garlic, onions, apples and satsumas to Pioneer residents in need.

A huge thank you to the Mason General Hospital and Family of Clinics for letting the PCFB benefit from their holiday food drive. We collected 235 pounds of healthy food donations, including lots of brown rice, whole wheat pasta, low-sodium canned tomatoes, and beans of all kinds. Hooray for MGH- thank you for thinking of our clients and the health benefits of "whole" foods!!
