Introduction:
In the adoption of sheltered Canines, one of the biggest problems that we are faced with is an ever present, remaining constant. There are certain unchangeable factors that usually prevent several groups of Dogs from being adopted. These groups are normally determined by the age of the animal, the specific breed or mix of breeds of the potential adoptee, and/or the body size of the D
og. Is is a sad truth that older dogs, less desirable breeds of Dogs, and larger Dogs are far less likely to get adopted. Older Dogs:
Older Dogs, statistically, are the opposite of what everybody wants to adopt. We all want a puppy, right? The problem is that very little puppies end up in a shelter. It is usually just after they get out of that puppy stage and become more of a responsibility that they end up homeless. Less adoptable breeds:
The less desirable breeds have made the common list for a few different reasons. Some breeds just simply have bad name. Usually, this is the result of generations of the bad treatment from irresponsible, unfit owners. There are also breeds that have been specifically breed and trained to be what is perceived to be potentially dangerous. Pit-bulls:
The main one, of course, are the "pit-bull" breeds and mixes. But, most of us know that when these animals are given a chance, the greater number of them usually exhibit an absolutely good natured temperament. It just so happens that the pit-bull breeds almost always make a phenomenal hog hunting dog! Not as an aggressive, blood-thirsty game killer, but an actually highly intelligent, highly efficient search and locator dog. And then when it comes down to the close encounter with the wild hog, that type dog will save your life over and over! That breed, and any breed with a mixture of that blood, seems to have just all around good instincts and abilities for every aspect of hog hunting. They are highly trainable and adaptable for hog hunting. Larger breeds:
Any Dog that is of a larger size automatically has a disadvantage in being adopted. Common current weight restrictions amongst rental properties limit the size of the pet allowed to very small breeds. Any Dogs that are of a larger breed are only allowable in size as a puppy, but these rentals will not allow puppies until they are at a certain age. Renting and financing:
Bigger dogs eat more and take up more space, but in this ever changing economy, most people are faced with common problems. We, a lot of times, end up renting an apartment or buying a small home when we are just starting out. In a situation like that, it's tough to take on a large breed Dog. More times than not, almost all of the rentals you will find have pet breed and size restrictions. That is, if they allow pets at all! These are also similar common requirements in financing a home. There is a long list of Canine breeds and mixes of breeds that rental and finance companies will not accept. All of the larger breeds just simply aren't allowed. Statistically, that doesn't leave very many people that are potentially able to adopt. Our program:
Almost any of these types of dogs, be they a larger breed and/or a less desirable or less adoptable breed, are capable of being trained to be efficient in some aspect of hog hunting. Where we live, we find in the shelters, a lot of bulldogs, pit-bulls, hounds, and other potentially good hog hunting dogs. In, fact we even see a lot of actual hog hunting breeds in the shelters in our region. It is our intention to temporarily adopt all of these types of Canines that fall into these groups. We will then train them to be efficient in some or all of the various aspects of the dog hunting of wild hogs. We will then re-adopt these dogs to...
experienced hunters,
hunters beginning to explore hog hunting,
young people getting into hog hunting,
people that want to train other dogs,
or even people that just get a thrill out of adopting a retired wild hog hunting dog! Primary benefits:
Hog hunting enthusiasts will be very excited to get a well trained hog hunting dog for a simple adoption fee! Even the older dogs that are no longer capable of running with the hunt can still be used to train younger dogs! People don't get rid of a well trained hog dog. Something like that is priceless to the people that are interested in it. It's a tax right off! Don't give your hard earned money to the wasteful IRS, dedicate it to a sorely needed program and a very worthy cause! Multitudes of otherwise unadoptable dogs can still have a hope of a decent life and/or, at least, a good old age! Relevant breeds:
Where we're from, hog hunters, hog hunting, and hog hunting dogs are very common and highly popular. We've learned hog dog training techniques from the experience of generations of hog hunters. The various breeds of dogs that have been used and are currently being used for hog hunting are numerous. Everything from little Jack Russell Terriers up to big Great Danes, including hundreds of other breeds and mixes of breeds. They all can not only be taught to be efficient at one or all aspects of hog hunting, they all immediately absolutely love it! Our previous efforts:
We have actually spent over a decade, working at our own private expense, adopting, training, and rehabilitating various breeds of dogs for the hunting of hogs. We were doing this just simply because it made sense to us. Local people eventually just started thinking about the local strays with us in mind. Anytime they saw a stray, they would try to catch it and bring it to us or tell us where they saw it. We eventually began to see the obvious positive effects and potential benefits of this practice. Start-up:
We have operated this program for many years, but on a small scale. Thus far, we have always personally funded our own efforts. A proper start-up for this program as a non-profit will allow us to do several very beneficial things...
Our obviously beneficial program can achieve a truly functional level. We can be productive in the adoption of these sheltered animals. We can lend our experience and time to the training and re-adoption of these animals. Motivations:
We have an absolute affinity for all animals. As hunting guides, we only guide the ethical harvesting of wild hogs in nuisance overpopulations to see that it is done responsibly. But, it is our passion and part of our life's ambition to help these types of dogs in this sad situation all across the US. Experience:
In the past, we have trained and practiced multiple generations of hog hunting Canines. I, actually, also even have a good bit of veterinary training and experience, including surgical assistance. Our dogs, trained under our methods, have developed a exhibited exemplary hog hunting dog skills and instincts. They have, over a short period of time, developed a reputation of excellence and a legendary status of mythical proportions amongst hog hunters of the region! In closing...
We, the collective of people dedicating ourselves to this program, ask now for your assistance in our efforts. This revolutionary program will only be made possible through the participation of intelligent, compassionate people collectively dedicating individual amounts of funding. We and all of the animals that we will impact cannot begin to thank you enough for your consideration.
