Dismissing it doesn’t change history. It just reveals which parts of it people are willing to ignore.

Dr. Opal Lee, known as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” is a lifelong activist whose dedication helped make Juneteenth a federal holiday in 2021. Born in Marshall, Texas in 1926, she turned personal hardship into a legacy of service, education, and advocacy—reminding the nation that freedom should be celebrated and protected for all.
