🌽 From Cornfields to Innovation: POET’s Growing Impact on Shelbyville!

Last week, the Shelbyville Rotary Club welcomed Jason Lucas from POET Bioprocessing for a fascinating look at the company’s history, major Shelbyville expansion, and the future of renewable energy.

What began as a family effort to turn surplus corn into fuel in 1983 has grown into one of the world’s largest bioethanol producers, with 35 facilities and approximately 2,600 employees!

🏗️ A $215 Million Investment in Shelbyville!

POET’s expansion will nearly double its annual ethanol production capacity from 95 million to 190 million gallons, bringing:

✅ 20–25 new full-time jobs

✅ Increased demand for locally grown corn

✅ Expanded grain storage and processing capabilities

✅ Continued investment in Shelbyville’s economy

🌽 Nothing Goes to Waste!

Jason explained how POET transforms corn into renewable fuel, livestock feed, corn oil, and even products used in asphalt production.

🌎 Looking Ahead

We also learned about POET’s proposed carbon capture and underground storage project, which is currently undergoing EPA permitting, along with opportunities in sustainable aviation fuel and other emerging markets.

It’s exciting to see a local facility making such a significant investment in our community while helping shape the future of agriculture and renewable energy.

If you joined us Friday for Fore a Greater Shelbyville, you know there was a lot more happening than just 18 holes of golf! 😂

From launching golf balls across the fairway to putting on a skirt for a little extra distance, we had plenty of laughs, friendly competition, and some unforgettable moments.

We’ve had a few days to catch our breath after Fore a Greater Shelbyville — and there’s really only one place to start:

THANK YOU.

To every golfer who joined us, every business and individual who sponsored the outing, every person who donated a prize, every volunteer who gave their time, and everyone who helped behind the scenes — you made this day possible.

We set out to create more than just another golf outing.

We wanted a day where people could have fun, compete, laugh, connect with others in our community — and at the same time help Shelbyville Rotary continue giving back right here at home.

You absolutely delivered. 👏

From the golf ball cannon and co****le to the skirt hole, bourbon putting contest, raffles, prizes and plenty of memorable shots on the course, there were a lot of great moments throughout the day.

And we’re not done sharing them.

🎶 A MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR THROUGH BEATLES HISTORY 🎶

At last week’s Rotary program, Amy McQueen took us across the pond for a fascinating journey through Beatles history in London and Liverpool.

Highlights included visits to Paul McCartney’s London and childhood homes, Abbey Road Studios, John Lennon’s childhood home, and St. Peter’s Church—the location where 15-year-old Paul first met John Lennon in 1957.

We also learned about the Casbah Coffee Club, considered the Beatles’ true birthplace. The future Beatles helped paint and renovate the club themselves, leaving behind artwork, signatures and other pieces of music history that remain today.

The trip continued with stops at the Cavern Club and the 40th annual International Beatleweek, featuring musicians, memorabilia and stories from people personally connected to the Beatles.

It was a terrific program filled with music, history and memorable stories—and this “scouting mission” may lead to a return trip for the full Beatleweek experience!
