This week's June America 250 Across NC series takes a closer look at the Second Empire style in North Carolina. On the heels of Italianate and Gothic designs came the stylish and updated French-inspired Second Empire style. Easily identified by its distinctive mansard roof silhouette, the style was named for France’s Second Empire under the reign of Napoleon III. Second Empire-style houses were promoted in pattern books from 1857 into the 1880s.

PNC protects a number of beautiful Second Empire-style buildings, including the Dodd-Hinsdale House in Raleigh (1879); The Banker's House in Shelby (1874), and Piedmont Leaf To***co Buildings (1895).

🏫✨ Beginning next week, The Banker’s House will once again welcome visitors with the return of Guided Tours every Friday and Open House Wednesdays for Cleveland County residents! ✨🏫

🆓 Open House Wednesdays are free for Cleveland County residents and provide a relaxed opportunity to wander through the home, admire its beautiful architecture, and soak in its rich history. 📜🌿

📅 Wednesdays | ⏰ 2–5 p.m.

🎟️ Guided Tours on Fridays are just $10 per person and offer a deeper look into the fascinating stories, people, and events that shaped this historic landmark.

Our first week of camp kicked off today, and we're thrilled to report that it is completely FULL! 🙌💛

But don't worry—we still have a few spots available for our second session, June 15–18, and we'd love for your rising fifth grader to join us!
