I recently picked up a Bible from the shelf in the library... and the cover fell off.

As I looked closer, I realized that many of our Bibles had been taped back together.

At Chispas of Change, we teach our students to take care of all of our books, especially God's Word. So this isn't a problem caused by misuse. It's evidence of countless weeks, months, and years of daily Bible study.

These worn out Bibles are proof of our teachers' faithfulness in putting scripture into the hands of vulnerable children and walking them through the Gospels (and many other books of the Bible) year after year.

Today, we're thanking Jesus for Bibles with the covers falling off. 🌟

Remember our recent Mother’s Day event? There’s a special story behind it…
(Part 3 of 3) 💞

After much preparation, the special moment finally arrived! Each class presented a song, dance, or skit to honor their mothers. It was such a joy to watch the students share all they had worked so hard to prepare! Who knew that worship, YMCA, and Michael Jackson were the perfect combination for an unforgettable Mother's Day celebration?! 😆

After the presentations, Pastor Fernando shared a powerful Bible message and Gospel presentation. Then came one of the most meaningful moments of the evening: the students prayed over their mothers. 💗

Thank you to everyone who prayed for this event. Please continue praying that the seeds of truth planted in the hearts of our students and their families would take root and bear much fruit.

Remember our recent Mother's Day event? There's a special story behind it...
(Part 2 of 3)

After clearing the property in record time, our students and staff set out to make beautiful decorations out of paper and glue.

The day of the event, our team created a balloon arch and planters for the paper flowers.

Our cook, Mrs. Lily, and student helpers were working away in the kitchen preparing traditional Guatemalan ponche (warm fresh fruit beverage) and chicken salad sandwiches to serve for dinner.

Everything was in place, and it was time to await the arrival of all of the mamas! Our students were so excited for their mothers to see the special event that had been prepared for them.

Remember our Mother's Day event last week? There's a special story behind it...
(Part 1 of 3)

We didn't have enough room at Chispas of Change to host all of our students and their moms, so our staff started looking for a solution.

72 hours before the event, our neighbor agreed to rent their property to us for the evening, as long as we would get it into a usable state. The land is right across the street from Chispas but hasn't been used in years.

So, our students and staff got to work clearing the property, starting with using some special machinery (LOL) to knock over the old adobe walls. The resourcefulness of the Guatemalan people never ceases to amaze us!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! 💐

Our students are bursting at the seams with excitement today as we prepare for our special Mother's Day dinner this evening.

Tonight our students will shower their mothers with love, gifts, and creative arts performances (singing, dancing, acting). We will take advantage of this opportunity to share the Gospel with all who attend. Please pray for receptive hearts.

Sadly, several of our students do not have their mother in the picture. These students selected a lady on staff or from the community to honor this evening. Please pray for the hearts of the students who are grieving the loss of their mother.

Thank you to all of our supporters who make special events like these possible. 💗

A message from our Executive Director, Callie Lopez:

At Chispas of Change, we believe that every person is made in the image of God.

Later this week, we will honor our students’ mothers at a special Mother’s Day dinner. I’ve been so encouraged by the care and attention to detail our staff is putting into every part of this event.

When I saw these handmade invitations, I was reminded of Jesus’ words to “love your neighbor as yourself.” What a beautiful expression of that command as our students and staff joyfully prepare to celebrate and honor these women. 💛

Our hearts are so full after the 2nd Annual Sparks of Hope Banquet! 🌟

It was a special evening filled with stories of how God is working in the lives of the children we serve in Guatemala. Check out the pictures of some of the beautiful items our students made for this event.

Attendance doubled year over year, and as a result, dozens of students will have nutritious daily meals in the months to come! Because of your support, more children in need will receive Christian discipleship, education, and nutrition.

Thank you to everyone who attended, served, donated, and prayed for this event. We are so grateful! We are already looking forward to next year!

At Chispas of Change, we are family. And families celebrate birthdays, in every child's language. We are so proud of our students and staff for their commitment to learning Guatemalan Sign Language to communicate with our deaf student. 💗🧁
