The Shelby Foundation Since its inception in 1985, The Shelby Foundation has evolved into a catalyst where donors can positively impact the community they value.

The Shelby Foundation is the outgrowth of the old Shelby Development Corporation – begun in the mid 1960’s as a result of the closing of the Wilkens Air Force Depot. It was the vision of the community leaders to do what they could to deal with the economic realities of the closing of the
“Depot”. After the successful disposition of the “Depot” into what is now Central Ohio Industrial Park, there was no further need for activity, with a few thousand dollars leftover in the entity. The remaining funds were placed in
reserve until 1985, at which time The Shelby Foundation was created with the “seed” money left behind and the first substantial gifts of assets. With the creation of the Foundation in 1985, the initial Board of Trustees established a purpose: “…to receive and accept contributions to be administered under this instrument exclusively for charitable purposes
primarily in and for the benefit of the community of Shelby, Richland County, Ohio and the vicinity thereof…”. In 2005, the Shelby Foundation emerged into a community foundation to give philanthropic donors the opportunity to impact the future of Shelby. Led by community leaders as its Board of Directors, the Shelby Foundation
continues its mission – to build a legacy of community philanthropy by connecting generosity with community needs.

The Shelby community lost a truly special person in Mr. Phil Pearson—a beloved educator, man of faith, talented musician, world traveler, and friend to so many.

Phil touched countless lives through the classroom, his church, his music, and the relationships he built along the way.

This Sunday, friends, former students, colleagues, and community members are invited to “Philstival,” a musical celebration of Phil’s life—a fitting tribute to someone who brought so much music and joy to Shelby.

Sunday, October 4 | 4:00 p.m.
Shelby First Presbyterian Church

Please join us in celebrating a life well lived and a man who meant so much to our community.

✨ Something new is coming to downtown Shelby! ✨

We’re excited to welcome Olive & Oak Company, a women’s clothing boutique, to one of The Shelby Foundation’s downtown properties.

When the Foundation invested in these buildings, the goal was always bigger than the buildings themselves — it was about helping create spaces where businesses, ideas, and community can grow.

In this short video, get a first look at Olive & Oak and hear more about what’s coming to downtown Shelby. ❤️

We’re so excited to see another space coming back to life and grateful to everyone helping build momentum for the future of our downtown.

Together We Shine. ✨

At our Annual Fundraiser, we shared a story that belongs to all of us.

Every scholarship, safe place, creative opportunity and helping hand begins with a connection. Together, those connections create transformation throughout Shelby and the surrounding area.

This is our community. These are our stories. And together, we raised more than $160,000 to keep that impact moving forward.

We’re proud to share our new impact video.

To every donor, nonprofit partner, volunteer and neighbor who makes this work possible: thank you.

Together We Shine.

🍂 Thank you, All.

What an incredible evening.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for An Evening with The Shelby Foundation: For a Brighter Tomorrow — and to the donors, sponsors, volunteers, auction contributors, board members, and community partners who helped make the evening possible.

The generosity we celebrated Saturday extends far beyond one night.

It becomes scholarships and opportunities. It strengthens local organizations serving our neighbors. It supports programs that bring people together. And it helps invest in the future of the community we all call home.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who played a part.

Because when generosity meets community need, we all shine a little brighter. ✨

Together We Shine.
