Around here, Earl Scruggs isn’t just a music legend—he’s one of our own.

Earl’s banjo playing changed American music forever and inspired generations of musicians, including Steve Martin. Martin has often spoken about his admiration for Earl and the influence his groundbreaking style had on his own journey as a banjo player.

This photo is a reminder of how one man from a small North Carolina town helped shape a musical legacy that continues to reach people everywhere.

✨That spirit lives on in Bright Star, the beautiful musical written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell.

There’s something special about a story that feels close to home. 🌾✨

This July, join us for Bright Star, the moving bluegrass musical by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell.

💗Inspired by a true story, Bright Star weaves together themes of love, loss, family, and second chances, all set to a beautiful score rooted in the traditions of Southern bluegrass music.

Here in Shelby, where bluegrass has long been part of our community’s story, this show feels especially meaningful 🪕

Whether you’re a lifelong theater lover or simply enjoy great storytelling and music, Bright Star is a production that will stay with you long after the final curtain🎭

Bluegrass runs deep in Shelby, NC. It’s woven into our history, our culture, and the stories that make this community special.

🪕That’s exactly why The Shelby Theatre Company chose Bright Star - The Bluegrass Musical as our production this year. It felt like the perfect fit for our community.

💗We’re grateful to the Earl Scruggs Center for helping celebrate and preserve the rich bluegrass heritage that continues to inspire our community and our stage.

The Shelby Theatre Company is looking for talented local musicians to join our production of Bright Star: A Bluegrass Musical! We are currently seeking:
• Viola
• Stand-Up Bass
• Banjo
• Guitar
• Fiddle
• Mandolin

Compensation includes a $200 stipend — plus the opportunity to be part of something truly special for our community. 💙

A huge THANK YOU to EVERY single person who came out and auditioned for Shelby Theatre Company. We were blown away by the incredible talent, passion, and heart shown throughout the process. This cast is something truly special, and we are so thankful for each and every one of you!

Join us at Uptown Indigo at 6:30 PM for auditions for Bright Star — the heartfelt bluegrass musical by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell! 🎻🌟

Set against the backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and 1940s, Bright Star tells a powerful story of love, loss, hope, and redemption. Filled with beautiful bluegrass music, unforgettable characters, and an inspiring journey of connection and second chances, this Tony-nominated musical is one you won’t want to miss being part of.
We’re casting a wide variety of roles, including many ensemble roles .

Whether you’re an experienced performer or stepping on stage for the first time, we’d love to see you there. Come sing, act, and help bring this beautiful story to life!
