One of the real blessings of running a charity dedicated to mental health is the amazing young people I meet who are so supportive of the various causes. Ran into two of last year's Stoney Creek Cause Game Volunteers: Colton Hart and Julia McDermott at the Just B Brendan Davis Memorial Foundation Baseball Game last night. These two Stoney Creek Seniors give back to their communities so much I wanted to give them a special shout out!

Very True

People don’t fake depression. If they do anything, they do their best to hide it and may become fairly skilled at making others, even those they love, believe they aren’t struggling. In a month when Mental Health is the focus, we need to remember that so many are actively battling to stay afloat, to function at work and home, in spite of negative or runaway, intrusive thoughts that make life so hard, and reality often illusive. The stigma, judgmental attitudes, limited access to treatment, budget cuts and insurance reluctance, lagging research for effective therapies - the list of barriers seems endless. We think about su***de as an outcome - and that is the ultimate consequence, but I know of so many who live with excruciating effects, both with some sporadic therapies or without any treatment at all. More is known about the brain all the time - we should be more able to mitigate the pain. A huge shoutout to all who daily work in this field and care deeply - and prayers for stability in funding and access. -jb-
