There's a reason serious bullion dealers stopped trusting their eyes.

A gold bar can carry the right stamp, hit the right dimensions, and land on the scale at exactly the right weight, and still be tungsten underneath. The two metals sit almost on top of each other on the density scale. That's the whole scam.

The only way to know is to go into the middle of the bar.

A lot of leadership is built the same way. The credentials hold up. The giving record holds up. The reputation in the industry holds up. Nobody's ever had a reason to drill.

The church has spent decades sending business people back into a fight it never trained them for.

We taught them to sit still on Sunday. We handed them a study. We prayed over the missionaries and the pastors and left the man who runs a company to figure out Monday on his own.

So he did. He stopped expecting anything from the pew that would survive contact with the market, and he went looking for answers somewhere else. That is not rebellion. That is what happens when a field goes untended.

Last Wednesday a glacier gave way high in the Himalayas. By the time anyone could raise a warning, the valleys below had already changed. Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading are carrying the weight of it.

Hundreds are gone. Many more are still unaccounted for. Whole communities are living in that hard space between hope and grief.

Loss on this scale can make God feel very far away. He isn't. He draws closest to people in exactly this condition.

So pray. Pray for the families still waiting on news. Pray for the believers in those valleys who are holding up their neighbors and need someone to hold them up. Pray for the workers who have not slept.

"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you." Isaiah 43:2

He does not promise a way around the water. He promises to be in it with us. Nepal is in the water right now.

Let's not let them walk it alone.

Taipei. A hotel ballroom. Eleven hundred people at lunch, and six hundred of them did not know Jesus.

Close to three hundred prayed to receive Him before the tables were cleared.

Somebody had to make the invitation first. A coworker, a client, a friend. That is CBMC. The gospel carried into rooms pastors never get invited to, by the people already sitting at those tables every day of the week.

Thank you, CBMC Taiwan! Keep up the mission! You did not soften the message, and God filled the aisles!
