Our Mission:
To improve food security for community members of Shelburne through food distribution, and to provide emergency assistance grants, while preserving the dignity of our shoppers. Volunteers assist with food distribution and other tasks. Volunteers choose their scheduled hours using an easy, internet-based calendar-software program. Typically, a volunteer will give 3 to 6 hours of their
time per month to the Food Shelf. New volunteers are ALWAYS welcome! You may sign up to volunteer via our website: https://www.shelburnefoodshelf.org/volunteer-.html; or contact us at (802) 622-3313, ext. 3, or via email: [email protected] if you have questions. We welcome financial donations via our website (https://www.shelburnefoodshelf.org/donate.html), and food donations in the green bins at the south entrance of the Town Office Building or at the Shelburne Market. Our current food needs are listed on our website (https://www.shelburnefoodshelf.org/current-needs.html)
Eligibility Requirements for Shoppers: Community members of Shelburne, including the transient or unhomed, are eligible. Registration with proof of residency is required on the second visit to the Food Shelf. Proof of residency is provided by a current invoice or statement, such as a utility bill, paystub or bank statement, which verifies the name and current address of the shopper. Food Distribution Schedule: The Food Shelf is generally open six times a month: Tuesday evenings, Thursday mornings, and Saturday mornings. Shoppers are eligible to shop twice a month. To comply with COVID practices, shoppers must make an appointment using the website (https://www.shelburnefoodshelf.org/) or call 802-622-3313 ext. 3 for assistance. Emergency Assistance Grants: The Food Shelf refers shoppers as needed to Chittenden county, state and federal programs, and provides small grants for emergency assistance based on available funds, including:
Emergency utility assistance
Emergency fuel oil assistance
Eviction prevention
Emergencies outside the scope of established programs may receive assistance based on circumstances and funds available. Applications for Emergency Assistance Grants: Applicants must be a member of the Shelburne community, including the transient or unhomed. Contact Information
