September has a way of bringing everyone back into rhythm.

School doors open, routines return, and calendars begin to fill with fall events and activities.

There’s a lot happening at the Mary Lyon Foundation this month, too. West County’s Annual Community Resource Fair returns on Sept. 17, our Fall Newsletter will soon be on its way, and we’re putting the finishing touches on our 2026–2031 Strategic Plan as we look toward the future.

Here’s to a new school year, a new season, and all that September brings!

1,200 jackets. 290 pairs of eyeglasses. 12,000 bags of groceries.

These are just a few of the ways the Mary Lyon Foundation has supported children and families throughout the region over the past 30 years. This impact would not have been possible without the generosity of our donors.

Help us continue growing these numbers. Consider donation today: https://bit.ly/4aNK6l1

What does a healthy, supported community look like to you?

The Massachusetts Community Health Equity Survey is an opportunity to share what matters most to you: your values, your needs, and your hopes for the future.

Responses to this anonymous survey help inform decisions about health priorities and resources in communities across Massachusetts. By participating, you can help make sure our region’s needs and priorities are heard.

The survey is open through October. Make your voice heard today: https://bit.ly/4xcVDEB

July’s COLRAIN FOOD FOR ALL (CFFA) pop-up brought the feel of a neighborhood farmers market to Griswold Memorial Library.

CFFA is a new, all-volunteer food pantry initiative working to make fresh food and groceries accessible to Colrain residents.

The Mary Lyon Foundation was glad to join in with information and literacy bundles for local kids, alongside the Colrain Wood Bank, an important resource for households preparing for the colder months ahead.

CFFA will host its third Food Pantry Pop-Up this Saturday, Aug. 29, from 1–3 p.m. behind Griswold Memorial Library. Stop by to fill a bag with groceries, visit the library, and connect with neighbors.

Please help spread the word to anyone who may benefit!

Did you know more than 50% of car seats are used or installed incorrectly?

Certified CPHS/FRCOG technicians will be at West County’s Annual Community Resource Fair on Sept. 17, offering car seat safety checks to make sure your child’s seat is set up safely and correctly for every ride.

Each check takes about 30 minutes. If anything needs adjusting, technicians can reinstall the seat according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Just bring your car seat manual, vehicle manual, and your child’s current height, weight, and age!

At the Mary Lyon Foundation, we share a lot about what we’re up to, but have you ever wondered what a week (and a half) at MLF actually looks like?

Our incredible summer intern, Emily, captured a glimpse behind the scenes to show just how much can happen in a matter of days. From meetings and deliveries to volunteering and connecting with community partners, our team is often on the move, working together to make life a little easier for families and neighbors across the region.

Did you know the Mary Lyon Foundation has been entrusted with more than 20 scholarships?

Established by community members to honor loved ones and support the aspirations of local students, these funds help make college expenses more manageable. Each year, MLF works closely with district leaders to award scholarships to hardworking and dedicated students.

Financial barriers should not stand in the way of a young person’s education. Explore the scholarships available through MLF: https://bit.ly/44JZ3jF

Much of the Mary Lyon Foundation’s work is strengthened by volunteers who generously share their time.

One of those volunteers is John MacGibbon, a local filmmaker who drives for MLF’s food delivery program and is always willing to step in when another need arises.

Through a partnership with the Hilltown Churches Food Pantry, volunteers like John deliver groceries every other Tuesday to more than 50 families throughout West County.

We are grateful to John for the time and care he brings to this work.
