The Family Literacy Night at Buckland-Shelburne Elementary School was an absolute hit once again! Local Ashfield author Prudence Marsh had every child leaning in as she read Pippa and the Lost Paintings and children had great author questions at the end! Add in a giant book swap, interactive stations, pizza, and student work lighting up the hallways, and it was a night to remember. We're proud to support this wonderful annual tradition!

We were delighted to connect this vintage sewing machine (Singer 99K made in Scotland) with a new home at Mohawk Trail Regional School. The machine was donated by retired educator and Mary Lyon Foundation volunteer Kristen Elmes. The machine will now be used in the therapeutic art program under the caring guidance of Sari Pace, Art Therapist and School Adjustment Counselor.

Looking for a Mother's Day gift that actually means something—or a small upgrade she’ll use every day?

The Mary Lyon Towel is one of those rare finds: beautifully made, locally created by Shelburne Falls artist Julia Carroll, and rooted in the legacy of a woman who believed in opportunity and impact. It’s practical. It’s timeless. And it gives back.

With 40% of every purchase supporting the Mary Lyon Foundation, this is more than a towel—it’s a way to be part of something that continues to shape our community. Get her one here: https://bit.ly/4s3k3hU

We're very excited to have Corinne Coryat volunteering to deliver groceries! Corinne was Staff Director for the 1st Franklin District while Representative Natalie Blais was serving. Since Rep. Blais stepped down, Corinne has stepped up and is running to represent the 1st Franklin District in the House of Representatives. Volunteering with Mary Lyon Foundation and Hilltown Churches Food Pantry is one of the many ways Corinne supports West County.

Laurie Francis volunteers her time and talents with organizations all across Franklin County. Her enthusiasm for supporting the community and uplifting sustainability initiatives is inspiring. Laurie and her friend David Greenberg deliver groceries for us once a month. They both are part of a group who recently launched a new food pantry to support families at Colrain Central School. Laurie is now making these amazing reusable grocery bags out of animal feed bags that she gets from farmers. Farmers generate thousands of these bags, and little by little, Laurie is turning them into reusable treasures!

Solar power right in the classroom! Recently, students at Mohawk Trail Regional School had the chance to learn about renewable energy in real time by using classroom provided kits, while having fun along the way. With support from the Mary Lyon Foundation, replacement parts helped keep these kits in use and this hands-on learning going strong. A big thank you to Alia Woofenden, Climate Resilience and Special Education Teacher, for bringing this work to life for students.

A special shoutout to Aubuchon Hardware in Greenfield! We are so grateful for this incredible local business and their support of the Mary Lyon Foundation. It's prime time for garden prep and home projects, so head to their Federal Street store in Greenfield and round up at checkout — and every dollar you give will be matched by the Aubuchons!

Even Merlin the store cat made the picture! Thank you to store manager Raymond Szewczyk and the whole team. This is what community looks like.

Al Nubile is a dear friend of Mary Lyon Foundation. We look forward to seeing him every other Tuesday when we go to the Hilltown Churches Food Pantry for grocery delivery. We met Al two years ago when he began volunteering with Food Pantry. Al single-handedly moves hundreds of pounds of food - veggies, fruits, eggs, cheese, milk, yogurt - from the parking lot walk-in cooler into the Church basement in order to set up for pantry distribution. He also assists on Wednesdays when the pantry receives its weekly delivery from the Western Mass Food Bank - unloading the delivery van and storing literally tons and tons of food. Al is reliable and dedicated and doesn't want any recognition for the important work he does. When Al took some time off this past fall, we needed to recruit 4 volunteers to accomplish the amount of work he does every Tuesday. He loves dogs, and golf, and redeeming bottles and cans! We're so appreciative of Al and all he does for our partnership with Hilltown Churches Food Pantry. Volunteers like him are one in a million!
