While all types of electricity generation are affected variously by extreme heat, some commentators are quick to point the finger at “intermittent” wind and solar, while downplaying the impact on sources such as gas or nuclear power. Carbon Brief breaks down each electricity generation:

Amid a slew of misleading claims, Carbon Brief explains how key power sources - nuclear, gas, solar, wind - cope with extreme heat.

YOUR COMMENTS NEEDED!! Radioactive pollution will increase if new federal rules are adopted
Public comment docket closes today, Monday 08/31
https://www.regulations.gov/commenton/NRC-2025-1140-0001

(08/29/2026) The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is proposing changes to the national radiation rules, which will increase radioactive pollution, reducing protection for nuclear workers and for public and environmental health. Research shows the need for tighter radiation regulation—not weaker.

You can put in one or more comments—and not too late to ask others to make a simple statement in support of better protection NOT weaker standards.

Generational Radiation Impact Project (GRIP) has shown that the current regulations do not provide protection for those who need it most. [UNIDIR 2024]

Note: the material you submit is all included in the public Docket. Do not include any information that you do not consider public.

There is no limit to the number of comments anyone can submit. Comments by groups, individuals, and ‘by anonymous’ are all accepted.

Who is impacted by NRC’s proposed changes?
EVERYONE! The rule drops and bends other key radiation protections for:
-The general public
-Nuclear workers—at nuclear power reactors and all fuel cycle facilities
-Nuclear medical workers*
-Cancer patient caregivers and family members
-Aquatic ecosystems and drinking water

there's nothing innovative about this failed energy policy. we can and must do better than creating toxic waste that has to be contained for 10.000 years.

The U.S. Department of Energy on Tuesday announced five states, including Oklahoma, are being reviewed for a nuclear energy hub.
