Our Story

The New England Symposium On Play(NESOP) grew from a request by the New England Association for the Education of Young Children. It is a three hour symposium that reflects theory, research and practice related to the importance of play in the lives of young children. The First, 1996, New England Association for the Education of Young Children’s Annual Conference, Newport Rhode Island: “Play: A Multifaceted View: A view of play through the lens of a kaleidoscope. with Dr. Roberta R. Collard” (University of Massachusetts at Amherst). Twenty Two Years later, we are still playing! This past year, “NESOP” traveled across the country from California to New York City, Chicago to Atlanta, Washington DC, to Missouri. Got Play? And this year, we will provide a joint presentation with Grounds For Play, West Georgia University(including student play researchers) and The New England Symposium On Play, as we explore the importance and impact of Outdoor Play.

This past year we have collaborated with The Toy Association and the wonderful work of Genius of Play, a division of The Toy Association. We are honored to present at the 2019 National Association For the Education of Young Children’s(NAEYC) Professional Learning Institute, Long Beach California.
