On November 16 we were called to assist the Lawrence Co Sheriffs office in a search for a 73 year old male who went for a day hike in Bankhead National Forest and did not return when he was supposed to. He had took the sneak route to Big Tree and got turned around and lost. We searched till dark with the K9 but could not locate him. He managed to call and text Lawrence Co 911 and we got a location on his cell ping with 95% propability. Members of Colberts NW AL K9 , Huntsville Cave Rescue and RATSAR went in the find him and located the man. It took about 8 hours to walk the man out to safety and he was reunited with his worried family.

Id like to thank all our Colbert County Commissioners and the Commission who fund this and make it possible. We couldnt do it or it would be hard to do it with out the funding we recieve every year to help pay for insurance, gear and training. Our Colbert team has been deployed to 3 natural disasters, numerous missing persons and to assist law enforcement. We are greatful for the support you have shown. The commission has also upped our yearly appropriation another $1,000.00 for 2024.

We also want to thank the Colbert Co Community Development Council for all the funding in grants.

I want to congratulate all those who passed your K9/handler certifications this week. We had students from all over the Southeast attending our NW AL K9 WORKING DOG SEMINAR. I feel it was a big success from all the input Im getting back. This was our 3rd time hosting this in the Shoals area. We focused more on HRD "human remains detection" at this seminar but also had area search live find certifications as well this weekend. I want to thank all the sponsors we got this year including Lagrange College Site Park. They have been good to us over the past 3 years and help sponsor us. We got to work on the cemetery project this time with students using HRD dogs to locate and mark lost graves that over time lost the grave markers. Im proud to announce we have located and verified another grave at the cemetery and Ill put a marker on it one day this week. I want to ask the public to support the Lagrange College sight and also remember they have a cottage you can rent that sleeps six people. We also want to thank the American Working Dog Association, instructors and evaluaters Mike Kennedy and Marshia Morton. They are top notch and professional. We also want to thank Krispie Kreme donuts and all of the other donors as well. Our next seminar will be the weekend of September 11th this year and registration is open now. It will be $250.00 per dog /handler.
