UPDATE: 125 families received coats, scarves, hats, gloves, and even some socks and boots in the three hours we worked! I hope second shift is able to double the number of families who will be warm this winter. Great job Salvation Army of Sheboygan and Reinbold Novak Funeral Home !!!

Several months ago, our club was lucky enough to receive a sizable donation from another organization in Sheboygan thanks to two former optimist members who served on that organization’s board. (Thank you for advocating for us, Marilyn Hendricks and John Ehmann!!)

The first thing we elected to do with some of the funds was to purchase 456 Koss headphones that were divided and distributed to every school in the city, rather than distributing them thru our Back to School Basics school supply giveaway. (Headphones are a required item on students’ school supply lists.)

This donation directly to the schools ensures that every student has access to headphones during tech time in the classroom and alleviates the expense for a great many families within the Sheboygan Area School District. (thank you to our partners— the Community Recreation Department for your efforts in purchasng & distributing!)

The work at Optimist Park continues on the zip line, climbing structure, and two new sets of swings!! Construction should be done today, with landscaping to follow.

Anybody wondering what’s happening at Optimist Park on Carmen Avenue? We’ve been patiently waiting for several truckloads of soil needed to extend the play area, and it’s finally happening!

Look for new swings, a new climbing structure, and a zip line to be installed (hopefully) in the near future!!

This renewal of the playground is a joint effort of the City of Sheboygan Parks Department and a $25,000 donation by the Sheboygan Optimist Cub .

Several weeks ago, the Optimist Club and Comminuty Recreation Dept staff were given the opportunity to raise funds for our Back to School Basics school supply giveaway by working shifts at Culver’s restaurants in Sheboygan. (Don’t worry, we weren’t making food😋 only running orders to customers !)

The result was the presentation of a sizable donation at yesterday‘s club meeting. Pictured are some of our ‘shift workers’ from the club along with Jody Brooks, director of Community Recreation, Kenny Horkan of Culver’s.

Thank you, Culver’s, for your constant support of community organizations!!

The Optimist Club had the privilege of working with Sheridan School staff to provide a book vending machine (similar to the one pictured that is at Jefferson Elementary). School staff can award tokens to students for any number of positive behaviors which will allow the child to ‘purchase’ their own book to take home.

Club President Scott Stangel and Treasurer Mark Sprangers recently presented a check to school counselor Jeanna Gumtow and Secretary Rachel Ramos.
