We are thrilled to share that the John Michael Kohler Arts Center has received a Joint Effort Marketing (JEM) grant from Travel Wisconsin! 🎉

This generous support goes toward our current exhibition, "Guadalupe Maravilla with Emery Blagdon: The star exploding in the body", now on view at JMKAC — an experience that brings together for the first time the work of two artists who have both dedicated their lives, through their multifaceted artistic processes, to healing.

We are deeply grateful to Travel Wisconsin for investing in projects that celebrate and promote all that the arts have to offer visitors throughout the state.

Your Membership Travels with You ! 🚗✨

Did you know that a JMKAC membership opens doors to art and culture experiences all across the continent? When you join at the Explorer level ($120) or above, you’ll enjoy reciprocal admission at 2,000+ museums across North America through the NARM, ROAM, and Mod/Co networks.

“I’ve been traveling full-time for over a year, and I can’t tell you how many times my JMKAC membership card has given me access to museums across the country. By simply showing my membership card at the front desk, I’ve received free admission to top-tier museums in Chicago, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Tucson, Phoenix, and Boston. My membership paid for itself after only two visits! This is one of my all-time favorite benefits at the Arts Center because, even though I’m not always there in person, I can still bring JMKAC with me on the road.” —Jenny Wallace, JMKAC member since 2022.

We were proud to be a sponsor of the Door County Contemporary Art Fair this year, bringing hands-on art making right to the heart of the action at PenArt in Fish Creek. Whether you're a seasoned artist or trying your hand for the first time, we believe everyone deserves a chance to create.

The John Michael Kohler Arts Center has championed that belief since 1967 — and events like Door County Contemporary remind us why it matters. Thank you to every artist, gallery, and visitor who made it unforgettable.

🎨 Want to keep the creativity going? Visit us in Sheboygan — where making art is always welcome. Admission is always free.

Take a seat! 🪑

These one-of-a-kind chairs, featured in "How do you throw a brick through the window…", were created during the Self Design with Others workshop held at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center on August 23, 2025, and co-facilitated by Yani Aviles and Chloe P. Crawford.

In Crawford’s workshop segment, participants explored the relationship between body, mobility, and design by building chairs based on their own bodily proportions and experiences. Using recycled and found materials, Karla Kreuger, Sam Ostenso, Zoe Pringle, and Alexis Ortiz-Duarte created seating that reflects individuality, adaptation, and self-expression.

Rather than conforming to the standardized ergonomics of mass-produced furniture, these works reimagine design as something personal, collaborative, and self-directed.

Come experience the exhibition and see how artists and participants are reshaping ideas of access, function, and care through design.

Last month, Emily Endo was at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center for an Exhibition Artist Residency, where they led scent hikes, hosted distilling demos, gave a gallery tour of "Emily Endo: Estuary" currently on view, and guided a custom scent workshop with the community.

Program and Engagement Coordinator Taunahleah David reflects on the impact of working with Emily Endo throughout the residency:

"Emily Endo brought such an amazing gift to Sheboygan through their work and residency here at JMKAC. Watching the way Emily shared the science and passion for harvesting materials in an ethical way and demonstrating the science of distilling that material down to its barest essence was an incredible thing to see.

I was especially grateful for the time Emily spent with a local high school art club where they were able to share their experience on how to explore pursuing college and a career in the arts. Getting to see high school students who are passionate about art get to ask an artist like Emily Endo about their exhibition directly was great.

We wrapped the residency with a fragrance workshop that was truly lovely! With twelve participants everyone left with a new friend and their own custom perfume. Emily Endo made the experience, for the workshop, and the residency as a whole engaging and educational for everyone they met."

Emily Endo: Estuary on view until August 30, 2026.

On Sunday, May 31, artist Guadalupe Maravilla will fill the Arts Center with gongs and conch shells, bathing the participants with healing sounds in a free experience inspired by Indigenous healing practices. Participation is free.

Two sessions are available:
• 11:00 a.m. – Open to the public
• 1:00 p.m. – Intended for people impacted by cancer, including those in treatment, survivors, caregivers, and family members.

Special encounters like these are made possible through the generosity of supporters who make it possible for everyone to experience the healing connections between art, the body, and the mind.

If you’d like to help make programs like this accessible to all, please donate today.
