The Fathers of New Thought: A Father’s Day Celebration

This Father’s Day, we are stepping away from traditional history lessons to explore the captivating, real-life stories of the two men who earned the title "Father of New Thought." We will journey into the lives of Phineas Parkhurst Quimby, a practical clockmaker who unlocked the secrets of mind-body healing, and Ralph Waldo Emerson, a rebellious minister who challenged the status quo to champion the divine power dwelling inside each of us. Far from dry facts, their lives were filled with radical choices, sudden healings, and ideas so bold they were banned from elite universities.

Through their unique life adventures, we will discover how these two visionary thinkers shifted the spiritual landscape of America forever. Instead of passing down strict rules, they gifted us a legacy of spiritual self-reliance and inner wisdom.

In this Sunday’s talk, we explored the transformative power of universal love, a journey that begins with radical self-acceptance. We traced this theme from the lighthearted wisdom of the Sufi fable of Nasreddin who finally found peace only when he learned to love the dandelions in his garden—to the profound legacy of June 12th's Loving Day. Celebrating the landmark 1967 Supreme Court case Loving v. Virginia, this historic day honors Mildred and Richard Loving, a couple who sought no spotlight but simply chose to stand firmly in the wholeness of their in*******al marriage.
Their story reminds us that universal love is not just a soft romantic ideal, but a fierce, resilient truth capable of dismantling external walls and rewriting history.

National Splurge Day - June 18

National Splurge Day, celebrated annually on June 18, is a feel-good "holiday" that encourages us to take a break from strict budgeting and everyday stress and do something special for ourselves or others. Splurging does not have to mean wiping out your savings. It can be as simple as adding whipped cream to dessert, trying a new sushi place, planning a vacation, upgrading something you use often, or treating yourself to a small luxury you will truly enjoy. It can also be a shared experience, such as exploring somewhere new with loved ones, planning a spa day, or surprising someone with a thoughtful gift. However you choose to celebrate, National Splurge Day is about savoring a little indulgence, creating happy memories, and sharing the warm, fuzzy feeling by encouraging others to do the same..

A Spiritual Reflection on Splurging

When we indulge in the goodness of life, we are not veering off the spiritual journey, we are steeping ourselves in the love of God. Our souls are nourished living simply and mindfully, but the soul also needs delight. The spirit is nourished not only by silence, prayer, and service, but also by beauty, laughter, sweetness, generosity, and the small pleasures that remind us life is good. To mindfully splurge, then, is to bless ourselves, to honor our sacred worth. It is to affirm that we are worthy. And there is also something holy about sharing delight. Treating someone else, planning an experience with loved ones, or offering a thoughtful surprise can become an act of love. Generosity expands joy.

Living in Grace

This Sunday's lesson... "Living in Grace," we will explore the profound truth that Grace is not a reward given or withheld, but a constant, creative force always blowing through our lives. Like the wind on the sea, Divine Grace is forever present, but it requires us to actively raise our sails. When life throws us unexpected curves and leaves us feeling battered, we are
called to rise above our fears, purify our consciousness, and move into the stillness of our higher self. It is in this quiet center that we find the strength to steer our lives forward, trusting the Divine current to carry us across.
To truly live in Grace, we must learn the power of complete surrender—letting go of our need to control, manage, and fix every outcome. By shifting our perspective and viewing ourselves as transparent conduits for the Holy Spirit, we allow Infinite Love to flow freely through us and into the world. When we step back from the chaotic drama of daily life and rest our minds in silence, we begin to witness the profound intelligence of the universe unfolding exactly as it should. Ultimately, living in Grace brings us to a state of deep gratitude, perfect wholeness, and the peaceful realization that we are always one with our Sacred Creator.
