These two.......what can I say?
Oliver James and Noelle. For those who dont know about them here is their brief story:
Oliver James came to us in 2023 from KY after being hit by a car. A good Samaritan notified the wonderful Kentucky Kitty Kats rescue who stepped in to help. He had head trauma, a ruptured ear drum, and a broken right front leg. He was transferred to us and did see a surgeon at Blue Pearl in Pittsburgh for his fracture. By the time he got to us and Blue Pearl the fracture was healed. He had recovered from his head trauma and also his ruptured ear drum with no apparent residual effects. While here at the rescue he became attached to Noelle, who is completely blind, and they have bonded. Because of that we didn't want to separate them so he remains here with Noelle.
Noelle came to us from Louisville Metro in KY in 2019. She had been hit by a car and suffered head trauma and pelvic fractures. She has developed some very early kidney disease and sees a specialist every 3 months. She is on medication and special kidney food. Over the past 3 years she has gone completely blind due to Sudden Acquired Retinol Degeneration Syndrome. There is no cure and no cause is known. She has done well despite her deficit. She also has had several mammary tumors removed over the years that were positive for cancer. She will remain here because of her health conditions. She also suffers from some breathing issues caused by allergies and asthma type symptoms. She is on a low dose of daily prednisolone that controls those symptoms.
These are the types of dogs we take and most of our rescues stay with us because of their health issues. That makes us a unique rescue. We are small and always have HIGH vet bills. We rely on donations to pay the vet bills which can be significant depending on what's going on. All of the medications the dogs are on routinely are paid for out of my own pocket.
