Last week, over the course of three days, Shawnee Public Schools 6th grade students stepped into the real world at Junior Achievement of Oklahoma's JA BizTown thanks to a sponsorship through Shawnee Forward!

From managing restaurants and operating banks to writing checks, voting for mayor, and making business decisions, students experienced firsthand how a community and economy work together.

JA BizTown connects classroom learning to real-life experiences, helping students better understand money management, business operations, citizenship, teamwork, and workplace soft skills that will benefit them for years to come.

Experiences like this matter. By giving students hands-on opportunities to learn, explore, and build confidence, we are helping prepare the next generation of leaders, workers, entrepreneurs, and community members right here in Shawnee.

A big thank you to our educators, partners, community volunteers and Junior Achievement for creating such a meaningful experience for our students!

Big things are happening at FireLake Ball Fields, and the impact will reach far beyond the field.

We’re excited to see construction underway on the new Championship Field at Citizen Potawatomi Nation’s FireLake Sports Complex. Once completed in Spring 2027, the 4,100-seat facility will become the third-largest stand-alone championship field in Oklahoma and another major investment in the future of our region.

Projects like this create more than great experiences for athletes and families. They drive tourism, support local businesses, generate hotel stays, restaurant traffic, retail activity, and continue to position Shawnee and Pottawatomie County as a destination for sports, events, and regional growth.

We appreciate the Citizen Potawatomi Nation's continued investment in our community and the strong partnerships that help move our region forward. Excited to watch this project continue to take shape over the next year.
