Hats For History

Hats For History Hats For History is a project to provide Military Hats to Oklahoma Veterans.

These hats are sent to Oklahoma Classrooms across the state FIRST so teachers can use them as lessons.

Oklahoma…1937

Virgil recalled his 1st bike he received for his 10th birthday. This was well before a television sat in every living room, so kids spent all their free time outside.

Virgil…being Virgil…making his way to growing into a Great American Hero, thought at age 12 that it would be a great idea to ride his bike to his grandparents house (from Sand Springs, OK to Jay, OK). He got his buddy and they took off on their bikes. It’s unknown if Virgil disclosed to his buddy that his grandparents lived 100 miles away.

They were given the freedom to live, experience life and create adventure. Without knowing in that moment, it would be this very freedom he would be willing to sacrifice his life for just 5 short years later.

Virgil Kinnison, would soon become Captain Virgil Kinnison, the YOUNGEST PILOT in the India Theater at 19 years old. He would complete 25 missions over enemy territory. A true AMERICAN HERO!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

UPDATE….
100% of the hats have been ordered for the 7 VA Centers in Oklahoma!🇺🇸🎉🙌🏻 We are now waiting for all of them to come in to get them out to schools. The centers are working hard to get the info gathered to send with the hats as well.

FROM HERE….
We will continue to collect money and order hats. I would love to see schools start “Veteran Panel’s “ or “Patriot Clubs”. These students would find local veterans in their community and begin honoring them with hats and recognizing their service at school assemblies.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
It is very helpful if you post the image below. Send it to teachers and encourage them to participate. There’s so many advantages for students of all ages. I have retractable banners that can be put up at games, assembly’s, etc. so that your community knows your school is participating.

BIG, BIG, BIG ANNOUNCEMENT.....
I could not be happier to announce that 100% of the VA Centers have been adopted by public schools and private businesses this year!!! THANK YOU Jeannene Wade for your hard work and dedication in getting this done! Jeannene worked so hard on this so I could dedicate time to Hats For History and I really appreciate that. South Rock Creek Public School will be doing Christmas Bags in my area, so if this is a tradition in your family and you live in my area, we will take everything to the students there to deliver to the veterans. I think the only item that has changed is the blanket. Centers are trying to get twin size blankets to fit the veterans beds to make them warmer. If your business would like to donate please contact me or Natalie Arnett and we will get you hooked up.

Oklahoma State University has a adopted the Claremore Center and will be taking donations at the University.
Edmond FFA Chapter has adopted the Norman Center and will be taking donations to provided those Christmas bags.You can contact Kelly LaRue if you would like to make a donation.
