How the Federal Street Free Library came about....

Hello! Thank you for visiting our page. We hope to see you visit our free library in person. We are located on Federal Street just west of Beard Avenue in Shawnee, OK. Our library has been a dream for many years that has finally been brought to life. After scouring social media, the internet and looking in flea markets, antique stores, thrift shops and online marketplaces for quite some time, we finally found our perfect “library.” A used grandfather clock! We hope you find our library as eccentric, fun and interesting as the books and media it houses.

We are excited to bring this idea to the Shawnee, OK community, as we feel there has been a need--and boy, we were right! We have been amazed at the interest and the numerous visitors we have had from the very moment we placed the free library outside our home. We are a registered Little Free Library. The Little Free Library is a non-profit organization that formed in 2012 to promote neighborhood book exchanges. Its aim, as is ours, is to increase access to books for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Books have always been a passion in our home and in my career as a Librarian. We are grateful to be able to share this with our community. My family hopes that we will inspire reading and learning with this little project of ours. Please come and take a book--or share one! Donations are always welcomed and encouraged.
