On Tuesday, Aug. 25, Auditor General Tim DeFoor and I will host an event to educate our volunteer firefighters and relief organizations on best practices. I encourage our local Volunteer Firefighter Relief Associations (VFRA) to join us from 6-8 p.m. at the Bradford County Department of Public Safety, 29 VanKuren Drive in Towanda, for this informative meeting.

Local VFRAs rely on state aid from the auditor general’s office to continue their lifesaving missions. This event aims to ensure these agencies are responsibly using any funding they are granted. Mr. DeFoor and his office will also discuss common mistakes they see while auditing VFRAs and open the floor to any questions.

Recently we have had to bear the expense of replacing emergency lighting on the Rescue Truck. In fact, after an initial 4 different lights were replaced (One being a turn signal so sorry to those not knowing we were making a left turn), 2 more went out, with one malfunctioning right before our eyes. It is why we are thankful to our supporters that we are able to afford the replacements. Installation and some wiring was performed by our personnel saving the labor cost of a new install. The Rescue Truck is 18 years old and still a valuable asset.
