Friends of Chappie

Friends of Chappie Friends of Chappie is a group of volunteers who help make our local Chappie-Shasta OHV area better for everyone.

Over the years we have worked hard to develop a working relationship with BLM that has helped to improve the off roading experience. The Friends of Chappie started as a group of volunteers that responded to the devastating Carr Fire of 2018 and the call of the Post Wildfire OHV Recovery Alliance to help in the restoration process of the Chappie-Shasta OHV Park. The group consisting of the members

of the Black Sheep 4X4 club which was founded in 1981 in Redding, CA., began building a cooperative relationship with the Bureau of Land Management to restore the OHV Park which covered over 50,000 acres of land near Shasta Dam. From that beginning, a Mission Statement began to evolve into an opportunity to work with the Department of Interior Bureau of Land Management Chappie/Shasta Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area and other private citizens and public organizations to promote responsible safe Off-Highway land trail use to preserve and environmentally conserve the natural resources for generations of enthusiasts. Inspired by the opportunity to work collaboratively with BLM in the restoration, development and maintenance of the OHV park, the Friends of Chappie, which had been a satellite group of the Black Sheep, formally filed it's Articles of Incorporation with the California Secretary of State as a 50 l-C-3, a public benefit non-profit corporation in June of 2024 and received it's Letter of Determination granting our Non-Profit status from the IRS in September of 2024. MISSION

Friends of Chappie is designated under the National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE) as (N 32- Parks and Playgrounds) more specifically, organizations that develop, maintain and make available to the general public recreational areas which among other things, consist of a variety of recreational trails including off-the-road vehicle trails. The Friends of Chappie encourage good stewardship of our public lands which is strongly supported by the Black Sheep 4X4 club, a member of the California Four Wheel Drive Association and other responsible Off-Highway organizations and enthusiasts that likewise support the care and maintenance of our public lands and widely acknowledge the reality that doing so will greatly ensure continued access and enjoyment of these wonderful places for future generations. We invite you to become a part of our Mission and join with us in promoting safe and responsible use of our public lands and welcome your tax deductible support of our organization.
