Hi, all. Sweet Monty needs your help. You may remember seeing his impounded photo from Sharon Animal Control on Facebook on August 12, two months ago. He was abandoned on the back roads of Sharon, limping along holding up his right rear leg. Sadly, no one was looking for this sweet nine-year-old dog, likely because the people he trusted left him to fend for himself. Fortunately, two Sharon residents discovered him, lost and confused in the brush, and contacted Animal Control.
Two days later, when they took Monty to the vet to have his leg checked, he needed an examination and X-rays, after which a specialist was suggested. While Lee Edington Sohl was considering the next steps, she contacted us. When we heard about Monty, we immediately wanted to help. We all had lots of questions about his hip, which appeared to be an old injury.
We decided to move forward with some tests to answer our questions about surgery, amputation, or who knows what? We were able to front the money to support Monty’s veterinary visits.
Sadly, the outcome was not what we had hoped. Monty has bone cancer, and even amputation won’t eliminate it. Right now he is on pain medication and is a happy camper, or at least as happy as he can be all alone at the dog pound. Monty is housebroken, likes going for short, 20-minute walks, and eats well. I don’t know how long he has - it could be months, or longer - but we want him to be safe and cozy for the rest of his life.
We are looking for two things:
One, a hospice placement (not that Monty is incapacitated at this point) where he can live out his life in a home with someone who cares about him. He is used to long hours alone, has been fine with the dogs he’s met, and loves people. Any necessary vet care and medication would be paid for by Furry Flights to Freedom - you would only be responsible for his food and comfort.
Two, if you can’t offer Monty a home, it would be wonderful if you could make a donation of any size. All funds collected will go directly to the rescue for expenses already incurred, as well as Monty’s future needs. Any overflow will help the rescue take care of other homeless pets. All donations are tax-deductible!
We hope you can help Monty, and thank you in advance!
