This past Saturday, the Rivers Edge Veterans Association Hospice volunteers (Blue Crew) had the privilege to present an American Flag that had been raised and flown from the mast of the USS Intrepid to the family of MM3 Stanley Davis Littlejohn who had served on Intrepid back in the 1960s. We conducted a formal Flag Folding and Presentation ceremony and also presented a certificate to the family as well. Here is a 14-minute video of that presentation.

The Rivers Edge Veterans Association (REVA) celebrated their 10th anniversary on September 26, 2026: a decade of commitment, dedication, giving and service. Starting with 14 men ten years ago, we are now a group of 43 men and women veterans who continue to serve veterans in need.

I have attached a 24 minute video which depicts the volunteer work we have performed in service to veterans in need over the past ten years.

Here are a few of the organizations we support financially:
-
• Brunswick Community College with scholarships and financial aid to veterans and veteran families.
• Canines for Service, who provide training and placement of service and comfort dogs to disabled veterans.
• Smiles for Veterans, who provide free and low-cost dental care for veterans in need of dental work
• Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center, who provide housing and transition assistance for veterans assimilating back to civilian life, recently discharged pregnant veterans, and “Tiny Homes” to homeless veterans.
• Operation North State, who provides joyful experiences to disabled veterans, such as golf outings, fishing events and cycling events. REVA membership participates in both the golf outings and we also work assisting the disabled veterans as pier-mates at the Oak Island fishing pier during the weeklong fishing event.
• REVA also provides direct financial assistance to veterans in need. A couple of examples include fixing the car of a single parent veteran who had no other way to get to her job. Our financial assistance helped her keep her job by getting her car fixed. We also provided temporary lodging for a veteran whose mobile home burned down.
• There are many other such instances of REVA’s direct financial support and intervention to provide needed assistance to area veterans in need as well as to many other veteran organizations.

In addition, REVA recognizes our larger Rivers Edge community for their ongoing and unwavering support and generosity for the work we do.
• Thanks to the Rivers Edge community, our Toys for Tots program is such a success.
• Thanks to the Rivers Edge community, when we visit the VA Hospital to bring BINGO and a day of fellowship to the incapacitated veterans, we can also bring health and hygiene items, clothing, and hobby craft type items.

Beyond the financial support we provide to veterans, we also serve veterans. Several times each year, we bring joy, lunch, ice cream and cake to veterans in area assisted living facilities.

Nearly 30% of our membership are Lower Cape Fear Lifecare (Hospice) volunteers. We perform veteran visits and we also celebrate the lives of veterans transitioning to the next world through our veteran pinning ceremonies. To date, we have performed over 600 such pinning ceremonies and veteran life celebrations.

If there are any words that define REVA, it would be our “can do” attitude and our resilience. We have remained true to our Mission. We try to identify vets in need and lend a hand to better their lives. All along and always, we have been “veterans helping veterans”.

On Labor Day, September 7, 2026, The Rivers Edge Golf Club welcomed the area golf pros who participated in the 100 Holes of golf to benefit Folds of Honor through the Myrtle Beach Patriots. The Rivers Edge Veterans Association was granted three (3) tee times to supplement the playing field.

It was an amazing day from start to finish.

This past week the Rivers Edge Veterans Association, in partnership with Rivers Edge Golf Club and North State, cosponsored and hosted a group of disabled veterans from Operation North State for a fun day of golf and lunch.

We have been hosting this event twice a year over the past six years.

It was wonderful to meet a new member of the group and welcome some returning disabled veterans as well.

This past Monday, 3/15/2026, our Rivers Edge Veterans Association Hospice volunteers had the honor of conducting a pinning ceremony for Charles C. Clapper, a 100 year old Marine/Army veteran. He served during WWII and was a flamethrower on Iwo Jima. The event was hosted by his VFW unit.

Our Rivers Edge Veterans Association (REVA) of 41 members also includes 12 of us who are Lower Cape Fear LifeCare (Hospice) volunteers. We conduct pinning's for veterans nearing end of life and who are transitioning to the next world.

Last month, we had the honor to pin Command Sergeant Major Henry Conduzzi, a 98 year old WW2, Korean War, and Viet Nam War veteran. Not only did he first serve during WW2, he also was on duty serving in an Intelligence capacity when the Nuremberg trials took place after WW2.

His last wish was to have a final martini with his fellow veterans. It was our high honor to pin the Command Sergeant Major and share a couple of martinis with him and his daughter.

Command Sergeant Major, as we say in the Navy: "Fair Winds and Following Seas". Rest easy, brother, we got the watch.

On Superbowl Sunday 2026 (before the game of course) the Rivers Edge Veterans Association held it 9th annual bowling fundraiser at Planet Fun. We had a record turnout and record fund raising profits from the initiative. Sincere thanks to our participants and our sponsors.

Today we participated in a volunteer's staff meeting at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare. Lower Cape Fear LifeCare has earned the Level 5 status (the highest) for rendering service to Veterans who are in the process of transitioning to the next world.

As many of you know, the Rivers Edge Veterans Association (REVA) has 11 members who are also Hospice volunteers (we are known as the Blue Shirts). Over the past six years or so, we have conducted near end-of-life ceremonies to well over 500 Veterans transitioning to the next world. We perform this labor of love for the Veterans and their families, to provide them with the honor and recognition that they deserve.

We could not do what we do without the planning and organizing by Laura Long coupled with the love that she pours into her work for these Veterans. We are blessed to have Laura Long as partner in this act of rendering a final salute to our Veterans as they prepare to leave this world.

At today's staff meeting, we made a point to honor Laura for her work supporting Veterans throughout a several country area in NC and SC.

Thanks to Kate Landon, an honorary Blue Shirt who presented Laura with a quilt that is similar to the quilts that Kate voluntarily creates for the Veterans in the care of Lower Cape Fear Life Care.
