Feral Friends of Shaker Hi folks! We are a 501(c)(3) in Northeast Ohio keeping it feral with TNR. We’re not a rescue, just here to help community cats live their best nine lives.

Feral Friends of Shaker was started by two Shakerites who happen to be neighbors who noticed local cat colonies of unneutered cats. Our primary goal is TNR, which means to Trap, Neuter, Return. This service is for feral cats who cannot be placed in homes. TNR promotes the reduction of homeless and feral cats and helps keep feral cat colonies healthy. How it works:
See a feral cat? Contact us by messenger or email and let us know. We can come out and assess. If the cat is a candidate to be trapped, neutered and return, we will do so. What we do not do:
We do not shelter cats at this time and are not a rescue. Our long term goal is to have a shelter for the friendly cats we find along the way, but as of right now we do not have capacity to hold onto stray cats. We suggest reaching out to the APL for further assistance. Sometimes we do have kittens that were trapped with a feral mom, in which case we find temporary arrangements but that is not the goal of FFS. We are more than happy to refer you to local shelters or rescue agencies! Hours of Operation:

Six months. Six months of waiting for someone to give Daphne a chance. Our sweet Daphne is 10 years old, and we’re still searching for the right foster home for her.

Daphne is a senior girl who loves human companionship, but unfortunately, she doesn’t feel the same way about other cats. She would do best as the only kitty in a home or with someone who can provide her with a separate space while still giving her plenty of love and attention.

And that’s what makes this so difficult. Daphne doesn’t want to be alone. She just doesn’t want to share her people with other cats.

For six months, we’ve been trying to find the right situation for her. In that time, we’ve watched so many other cats come into our care and move on to their next chapters. And somehow, our Daphne is still waiting.

She’s 10 years old and FIV positive. She shouldn’t have to spend her golden years waiting for someone to see how much love she still has to give. We’re not asking anyone to make a lifelong commitment. We’re simply looking for someone willing to open their home and heart to a senior girl who deserves a little peace, comfort, and companionship.

Daphne doesn’t need a perfect home. She just needs the right one. If you have room in your home and heart to foster Daphne, please reach out to Feral Friends of Shaker.

And if fostering isn’t possible, please share her story. Six months is long enough. It’s time for this sweet girl to have her chance. ❤️

100 CATS. 100 STORIES.

When we started Feral Friends of Shaker, we had no idea just how many little lives would become part of our story. And now, here we are. 100 CATS HELPED!!

100 cats who needed someone to care. Some were scared, some were sick, some were just tiny babies who hadn’t even gotten a fair start in life. Some found their forever families, while others were given the medical care and second chance they desperately needed. Every single one of them mattered. And every single one has left a little paw print on our hearts.

This video is just a glimpse of the beautiful faces that have made the last two years so incredibly special. Behind each face is a story, and behind each story is a whole lot of love, determination, sleepless nights, and probably a few mental breakdowns (ok maybe more than a few).

But none of this would have been possible without all of you. Our fosters, volunteers, adopters, donors, vets, and everyone who has shared a post, donated a dollar, or cheered us on. You have helped make 100 second chances possible.

A HUGE, heartfelt thank you to Ashley at Cottage Cakes of Cleveland, who generously donated the incredible custom cake featured at the end of our video! Ashley took our little celebration and turned it into something truly special. The time, talent, and generosity that went into creating this cake mean so much to us. Supporting a small nonprofit in such a thoughtful way is something we will never forget!

It’s Monday and we could all use a pick me up so let’s do something fun. Drop a picture of your cat in the comments and tell us their name & the most ridiculous thing about them.

Are they obsessed with licking plastic bags?
Eating crunchy leaves that inevitably come right back up in your new carpet ?
Screams at you if you talk a little too loud ?

Happy to announce that we have another adoption alert!
Our sweet kittens Poutine & Dill have officially been adopted, together!

These two may not have started their stories together, but somewhere along the way they decided they were meant to find each other and the rest was history.
There is something wonderful about watching two cats in our care find comfort and friendship in each other, and then getting to watch them leave for their forever home side by side.

Happy tails, Poutine & Dill. We love you both so much and couldn't have asked for a better ending to this chapter. 🐾

Our beautiful boy Cinnamon has officially been ADOPTED!

His new family wasn't trying to find him when they did, but they fell in love at our adoption event and the rest is history!

Cinnamon is now Mac, and he didn’t just gain some pretty amazing humans… he also gained a couple of furry siblings! There’s something so special about watching one of our cats meet their people and realizing, this is exactly where they were meant to be.

From Cinnamon to Mac, from our family to his forever family, we couldn’t have asked for a happier ending for this sweet boy.

MEET UNCLE SAL!
Don't be fooled by his name. Uncle Sal is not, in fact, your 57 year old uncle who knows a guy who knows a guy who can you tickets to see Harry Styles.

Uncle Sal originally was supposed to be a straight TNR - get trapped, get neutered, get vaxxed, get ear tipped, and go back outside. Uncle Sal ended up being very not feral and showed how much of a little lover he was very quickly.

We trapped this handsome orange boy as part of a TNR effort, but it didn’t take long before we realized Sal was wayyyy too sweet to send back outside. So, naturally, he upgraded himself from TNR to foster baby.

We think Uncle Sal is around 5 months old, and he is already fully vetted and neutered. More importantly, he is a huge loverboy who is extremely happy about now being an indoor cat.

Now all Uncle Sal needs is someone willing to make his unexpected indoor life his new forever life with his new forever family.

Well… we took in five kittens today. Ooops!

These little ones are still pretty young, which means they’ll likely be hanging out with Feral Friends for a while before they’re ready for their next chapter. And as you can imagine… five growing kittens can put away some food.

We’ve had so many new people join our page recently, so we wanted to share our Amazon wishlist for anyone who has been looking for a small, direct way to help. We added kitten food specifically for these five, anything purchased from the list goes straight to the cats in our care!

There is absolutely no pressure to donate. Sharing our posts, following along, and cheering on our little rescue crew helps us more than you know. But for anyone who prefers donating something tangible and knowing exactly where it’s going, kitten food is always VERY appreciated around here. My speciality is chunking kittens up but that requires a lot of food.

Thank you for continuing to help us say “yes” when five tiny faces unexpectedly show up needing us. ❤️

ADOPTION EVENT TOMORROW!

Come hang out with Feral Friends of Shaker tomorrow at the The Van Aken District from 5–7 PM!

We’ll have some of our adoptable kitties there hoping to meet their future families, plus Feral Friends T-shirts available for anyone who wants to rep the rescue and support the work we do!

There’ll also be live music, food & drinks, so stop by, say hi, meet some cats, grab a shirt, and spend your Friday evening with us. Even if you’re not looking to adopt, we’d LOVE to see you! 🩷

It’s time to talk about Mama Beanie!

Mama Beanie has been with us for almost a year now. When she came inside, our basement became her safe place, a quiet space where she could decompress and learn what it meant to be safe and loved. But it was never supposed to become her whole world.

Beanie is an incredibly shy girl. If you approach her, her first instinct is usually to run. But when she feels safe and you meet her where she is, she WILL let you love her. She just needs someone willing to accept that her trust may be measured in weeks and months instead of days.

I keep looking at her lately and thinking: she deserves more than a basement.

She deserves windows. Sunbeams. A favorite couch. A quiet little corner that belongs to her. She deserves someone who gets ridiculously excited the first time she chooses to sit a little closer.

And after almost a year living safely indoors, simply putting her back outside doesn’t feel like the answer either.

We need help finding the person who looks at a cat like Beanie and doesn’t ask, “How quickly will she warm up to me?” but instead says, “She can take as long as she needs.”

Her ideal home would be quiet and understanding that she had a very hard life before she came to us. Someone experienced with shy or undersocialized cats would be incredible. There are no expectations that she’s going to walk into your house and immediately curl up in your lap. Beanie gets to be Beanie.

The basement kept her safe but now I want to find her a home. Please share Mama Beanie. Her person might not follow our page yet, but maybe they follow yours.
