Shafter Youth Center kids reunited for another adventure in our Nature & Culture series! This time, SYC kids teamed up with friends from the Friendship House Community Center for a day full of exploration and discovery.

Our journey took us to Red Rock Canyon and on to Ridgecrest to visit the Maturango Museum. While we only experienced a small glimpse of the park’s 27,000 acres, it was more than enough to inspire awe. At the museum, students explored Native American artifacts and learned about the plants and animals native to the region.

Along the way, we discovered sedimentary rock formations, washes, and even signs of volcanic and lava rock activity. A little hiking helped us stretch our legs after enjoying lunch in a beautiful outdoor amphitheater.

With perfect weather and stunning scenery all around, it was a day filled with learning, connection, and appreciation for the world around us. We even made a fun stop in Tehachapi for a pizza snack on the way home!

Feels good to be back on the road again. Adventure awaits!
