Heads up for this after: dry air and winds are creating a higher risk for fires. Even a small spark could spread quickly, so please avoid outdoor burning and be extra careful. Stay safe!

Relative humidity is expected to fall into the 20s across the forecast area this afternoon. Breezy winds will accompany the dry air, with gusts up to 15 mph for central and southern Tennessee Valley and southwest North Carolina. Gusts 15 to 25 mph are expected from northeast Tennessee into southwest Virginia. Elevated fire risk is possible. Check local burn permits before burning.

Stay with FirstWARN Tri-Cities for the latest updates

We’re excited to share an update on Tanker 2803! 🚒

Our department has officially placed a “new-to-us” used truck into service, giving Tanker 2803 a solid upgrade while keeping costs down for our community. This truck has been carefully prepared to serve as a reliable water supply unit when we need it most.

Along with the upgrade, Tanker 2803 is now sporting brand-new decals, giving it a fresh, updated look that reflects our department’s pride and commitment.

We’re grateful for the continued support from our community that helps make improvements like this possible. And also made possible by grants!! Keep an eye out for Tanker 2803 out on the road!

🔥 KNOW YOUR FIRE CLASSES

Not all fires are the same—
and using the wrong extinguisher can make things worse.

At home, most fires start small…
but they grow fast if not handled properly.

That’s why understanding fire classes matters:

🧯 Class A – Wood, paper, cloth
💧 Best controlled by cooling

🧯 Class B – Fuel, oil, flammable liquids
🛑 Controlled by smothering

🧯 Class C – Electrical equipment
⚠️ Use non-conductive agents (never water)

🧯 Class D – Combustible metals
🔧 Requires specialized extinguishers

🧯 Class K – Cooking oil & grease
🍳 Use wet chemical extinguishers

💡 Fire extinguishers work by removing one or more elements of fire:
Heat • Fuel • Oxygen

🚒 Firefighters don’t just fight fires—
they understand fire behavior.

And the right knowledge can protect your home and your family.

‼️Special Weather Statement issued March 28 at 8:52PM EDT by NWS Morristown TN‼️

Fire weather concerns exist again for midday Sunday into the evening due to a very dry airmass and breezy south to southwest winds.

Relative humidity values are expected to drop into the teens and lower 20s across the whole region. Winds will gust up to 25 mph.

Residents and visitors are urged to properly dispose of cigarette butts, matches, and any other flammable items in appropriate containers.

Additionally, exercise caution if operating any equipment that could create sparks and keep vehicles off of dry grass. Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily ignite and spread fire quickly.

Lastly, remember to obey local burn bans.
