Monday we received a call asking for a helping hand up for a local momma…her 3 kiddos were headed to school this week and needed supplies💙💛

Availability of items, funds to cover them, and the time to get these supplies where they needed to be all proved to be an obstacle with this request…but we managed to get the supplies and get them where they were there in the nick of time with a little help from our friends, a very understanding and supportive boss, and Walmart Delivery💙💛

Thanks to the generosity of a few of our supporters we were able to offer a helping hand up to a local kiddo this week and get her some new clothes for the upcoming school year 💛💙

The first day of school is 11 days away and families in the Shady Elementary district woke up today to the news that there is no aftercare program being offered at SSES this year.

Stress levels just shot through the roof because now what do these families?? Especially the ones who have no village, no grandparents that can help out with the kiddos a couple hours until one of the parents can get off work. We have to work.

Reliable, safe childcare is almost impossible to find these days. Trying to find childcare that hits those requirements and is affordable…that’s like finding a unicorn.

There is a potential option available to the SSES families…but there’s still a lot of details to work out and there’s no guarantee they will but it’s worth trying to get them worked out.

The Salvation Army of Beckley offers an aftercare program that is $90 for the year or $10 a month. Pickup times are between 5:45-6:00pm. But they don’t offer transportation from SSES as of right now. If there are enough families to commit to their program and they see the need is there…we’re hopeful this detail can be worked out!!
