Chapter 371 was proud to attend the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce Legislative Update Breakfast!

The event provided a great opportunity to hear directly from our state legislators and local leaders on issues impacting Wayne County and Eastern North Carolina. Discussions covered several important topics, including our military community, advancements in education, agriculture, infrastructure, and continued growth throughout the region.

Staying engaged at the local and state level is an important part of understanding the issues that impact. Thank you to the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce and everyone involved in bringing our community and elected leaders together for an informative morning. 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 Family Matters Friday | Support the Military Family GI Bill Promise Act

Military service shouldn't determine when you start a family—or whether your children can benefit from the education benefits you've earned.

The Military Family GI Bill Promise Act would:

🇺🇸 Allow eligible service members and veterans to transfer their Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits to children born or adopted after leaving active duty

🇺🇸 Eliminate an outdated policy that prevents many veterans from transferring their earned education benefits simply because they didn't have dependents before retiring or separating

🇺🇸 Ensure military families receive the full value of benefits earned through years of honorable service

Under current law, many veterans permanently lose the ability to transfer their GI Bill benefits if they start or grow their family after leaving the military. This legislation fixes that gap by recognizing that military careers and family timelines don't always align.

Supporting military families means ensuring they have every opportunity to invest in their children's future. The Military Family GI Bill Promise Act strengthens family readiness, reinforces the value of military service, and provides veterans the flexibility they have earned.

Family Matters Friday | Support the Health Care Fairness for Military Families Act

Military families deserve the same health care protections afforded to most American families.

The Health Care Fairness for Military Families Act would:

🇺🇸 Extend TRICARE dependent coverage to age 26, aligning military families with private health insurance standards under the Affordable Care Act.

🇺🇸 Eliminate the need for many families to purchase costly TRICARE Young Adult coverage, which can cost $337–$727 per month.

🇺🇸 Benefit nearly 33,000 military families, with some saving up to $8,700 per year, per dependent.

For too long, military families have faced a coverage gap that places an unnecessary financial burden on those who have already sacrificed so much in service to our nation. This bipartisan legislation helps ensure military children receive the same health care protections available to their civilian peers while strengthening military readiness and supporting family stability.
