May is and as we consistently raise awareness about mental health conditions and eliminate the stigma, we must also actively work to provide access to resources that help alleviate mental hardships.

Today, we’re proud to highlight our nonprofit partner Little Sisters of the Assumption Family Health Service (LSA), which strengthens and empowers vulnerable families and children by meeting their basic needs for food, healthcare, education and a safe home, in the belief that affirming families in their own dignity improves the entire community.

According to LSA’s Development Consultant Kristin Sweeting, their goal is to reframe the narrative for these vulnerable communities from “surviving odds” to “shattering them.”

“It's ensuring that every child in East Harlem learns a powerful lesson: they can lead change in their own lives, their families, and their community,” Kristin adds. “When children see their parents accessing resources, advocating for better housing, and securing essential services, they internalize a transformative truth—that a future of dignity, opportunity, and leadership belongs to them.”

Seeking to help improve mental health of children and families in your community through effective resources? You should partner with us!

May is National Clean Air Month, observed to focus on the importance of maintaining clean air and reducing air pollution. NextGen, the third generation of the Pincus family, aims to create a philanthropic ecosystem that is innovative and effective in building equitable, sustainable, and stronger communities.

Whether you’re an individual, a community, a company, or an organization, we can collectively contribute to this mission. Some helpful tips:

Meet Monica Joyner, Administrative Assistant to Danielle Y. Scott, the President & CEO at Pincus Family Foundation.

Since joining PFF, Monica has been working closely with Danielle and has quickly picked up on what makes the foundation different. As she puts it, "Philanthropy is not just about giving money to partners; it's about creating a sense of community!"

In addition to directly supporting Danielle, some of Monica's PFF responsibilities include:

🖥️ Implementing operational process improvements
🗓️ Event planning

Newly appointed at PFF, Monica is looking forward to creating memories through her upcoming work with PFF nonprofit partner projects in the near future.

May marks National Physical Fitness And Sports Month, which promotes physical activity and sports benefits and encourages healthier lifestyles to reduce chronic disease and improve mental well-being. As such, we’re pleased to celebrate this observance by highlighting our nonprofit partner, Leveling The Playing Field (LPF).

By gathering new and used sporting equipment to stock in their well-organized warehouse so that local coaches can “shop” for their teams at no cost, this—as represented in their name—levels the playing field for underserved communities to enjoy sports. As LPF’s Regional Development & Partnerships Manager Monica Scharf noted, think of this org as operating with the food bank model, but for sports equipment.

Since the theme of is , we want to hear from you! What is your favorite accessible physical fitness activity or sport to participate in?

We’ve all heard the phrase, "April showers bring May flowers," but flowers don't grow on their own. They need the right soil, sunlight, and care. That's what partnership looks like at PFF.

We work alongside organizations that understand their communities, communicate openly, and share our commitment to expanding access for children and families. The strongest results come from trust, adaptability, and a shared vision for what young people deserve.

May 4-8 is , designated to honor educators for their contributions to society. This week at PFF, we’re thrilled to spotlight a couple of our nonprofit partners who have done just that.

First up… Leadership, Education, and Athletics in Partnership, Inc. (LEAP)

LEAP’s mission is to develop the strengths and talents of young leaders who create and implement year-round, neighborhood-based programs designed to achieve positive outcomes for children living in neighborhoods that have historically experienced systemic disinvestment.

To help break this systematic cycle of poverty, LEAP’s communal programming has tangible results, such as:

📏 77% of LEAP’s kids report being healthier and more active

🎒 78% gained new reading strategies through LEAP’s phonics program

📇 97% of parents trust LEAP enough to recommend LEAP to other families.

📔 84% of LEAP’s counselors are former LEAP participants who've returned as Leaders in Training, Junior Counselors, and Senior Counselors.

Do you have a special story about a teacher, counselor, or educator who had a huge impact in your life? Let’s celebrate them in our comment section! ⬇️

Meet Nora Jones, Program Officer at Pincus Family Foundation (PFF).

Previously serving as a professor of bioethics in academic medical centers, Nora brings over 15 years of valuable experience to oversee the Health & Wellness grant portfolio as well as lead strategic initiatives that advance PFF’s mission to ensure every child can achieve their full potential.

Nora’s most impactful PFF project? Launching the Field Advisory Committee (FAC) under our Health and Wellness programmatic area, which expands PFF’s thought-partner circle beyond Trustees and staff to include four additional advisors who’ll contribute significant input into our future partnerships.

“This work has deepened my appreciation for the power and privilege of this role and reinforced a truth I carry that none of us is as smart as all of us,” Nora says of the FAC launch.
