Gloucester Township Police Officers ride bicycles from New Jersey to Washington, D.C. as part of the Police Unity Tour and partake in other charity events.

Gloucester Township Police Officers ride bicycles, along with the Police Unity Tour Chapter 2 (South Jersey), to raise money to be donated to the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial in Washington, D.C. This also helps the names of the fallen officers each year to be engraved into the memorial wall to be remembered forever.

Posted • Philadelphia Police Captain Brian Hartzell will be laid to rest this afternoon. Tragically, Brian took his own life ten days ago. He proudly served the department for 15 years and was assigned as the Commanding Officer of the 6th Police District. Three officers under Brian’s command passed away, all within the last six months. The most recent death of Police Officer Eric Tomko hit Brian especially hard. The 6th District has had to endure an overwhelming amount of grief in such a short period of time. They’ve mourned, and they continue to mourn with the loss of their beloved Captain.

Brian was remembered by his officers as a consummate professional who always led by example. He truly cared about the men and women who worked for him, as well as the Center City community that he was trusted to protect. Brian excelled in his leadership abilities and quickly rose through the ranks of the Philadelphia Police Department. He was also on the list to be promoted to Inspector. Captain Hartzell was just 40-years old.

Posted • GTPD Media Release- Two Adult Males Arrested Following Search Warrant Ex*****on At Millbridge Apartments

Incident location: 600 Block of Millbridge Apartments, Clementon, NJ 08021

On 10/12/2023 at 1000 hours, the Gloucester Township Police Department executed a Narcotics Search Warrant for illegal narcotics at the residence.

This was the result of a lengthy investigation completed by the Gloucester Township Police Department with the assistance of the Clayton Police Department, which resulted in the recovery of significant quantities of Heroin/Fentanyl, Crystal Methamphetamine, Ma*****na, Drug Paraphernalia and CDS Manufacturing Equipment.

The arrests of these two individuals was part of our Community Policing initiatives to eliminate this type of nuisance criminal activity from the neighborhoods of Gloucester Township. We work closely with our residents, our Public Works Department, and our Code Enforcement Unit to keep our community clean and to have these types of neighborhood nuisance properties in compliance with our property and maintenance ordinance.

Arrest: Tymer Barton (Age 28) from 5901 Woodcrest Ave. Philadelphia PA, 19131 was arrested and charged with One Count of Operating a CDS Manufacturing Facility, There Counts of the Distribution of CDS., and One Count of Money Laundering prior to being remanded to Camden County Jail in accordance with Bail Reform pending Central First Appearance at Superior Court.

Arrest: David I. Gray (Age 24) from the 600 Block of the Millbridge Apartments Clementon, NJ 0821 was arrested and charged with One Count of Operating a CDS Manufacturing Facility, There Counts of the Distribution of CDS., and One Count of Money Laundering prior to being remanded to Camden County Jail in accordance with Bail Reform pending Central First Appearance at Superior Court.

Posted • Congratulations to GTPD's newest Police Officers Ptl. Tyriq Campbell and Ptl. Patrick Osborne who graduated from the Camden County College Police Academy Class 85 on Thursday, September 14, 2023!
Following the conclusion of the academy graduation, GTPD Staff, New Officers, and their families met in the College's art gallery where Chief Harkins and Gloucester Township, New Jersey Mayor David Mayer spoke to the new Officers. Those Officers were also presented their GTPD Challenge Coins and GTPD Mission Statement Plaques. 📜
Ptl. Campbell and Ptl. Osbourne will report to the Gloucester Township Police Professional Development Bureau for patrol tactics, fi****ms, and in-service training. Once completed, they will then report to their assigned platoons where they will continue their training with a Field Training Officer for the next several week. 🚔👮

Posted • On Saturday morning, police responded to a hotel in Jonesboro, Georgia to investigate a report of suspicious activity. During the course of the investigation, three suspects attempted to flee on foot. One was eventually taken into custody for gun and drug charges. A Clayton County police K9 team were called in to assist with the search of another male. K9 “Waro” was deployed into a wooded area where he was last seen. When the K9 alerted to the suspect’s presence, officers ordered him to surrender. Instead, the 17-year old male pulled out a handgun and opened fire on the officers. K9 Waro was struck in the back and was fatally wounded. The dog was rushed to a local animal hospital but was unable to be saved. The gunman was able to flee the scene again. After several hours of searching, officers found the teen hiding by a nearby residence. He refused to comply with their commands to drop his weapon and was subsequently shot and killed.

K9 Waro was a 3-year old German Shepherd who served the Clayton County Police Department since March of 2021. The week before Waro’s death, Clayton County PD announced on social media that the dog had been selected by the non-profit group “Vested Interest in K9s, inc.” to receive bullet and stab protective body armor that was sponsored by the family of fallen Everett Police Officer Dan Rocha. Sadly, Waro had not yet received that vest at the time that he was gunned down.

Posted • The Gloucester Township Police Department is saddened by the loss of Retired GTPD K-9 Arrow, who passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023. 😔🐾

K-9 Arrow was born on March 8, 2009, started his career at GTPD with Ptl. Chris Gerace in January 2011, and both he and Ptl. Gerace retired in 2019. During K-9 Arrow's service he was trained to detect the scent of six controlled dangerous substances in all types of vehicles, buildings, and packages. He was responsible for than sixty drug seizures and arrests during his career. He has also had many successful K-9 tracks of suspects which resulted in numerous apprehensions. K-9 Arrow was also very friendly with the public, and was the star at many public events and on our GTPD social media posts.

Since 2019, K-9 Arrow was enjoying life with the Gerace Family on their farm in Pittsgrove, NJ. Rest in peace, Arrow. 💙

Posted • The wildfires in Lahaina, Maui have already claimed the lives of over 110 people. That number continues to grow every day as search crews make their way house to house, looking for victims. Thousands of residences and businesses were completely reduced to rubble. There have been many accounts of tragedy and loss that have emerged over the past week.

This is the story of Franklin and Sam.

Franklin Trejos was staying with his best friends, Geoff Bogar, a retired Fire Captain, his wife Shannon and their 3-year old Golden Retriever, Sam. When the wildfires first erupted in Maui on August 8th, Franklin and Geoff tried to save their house and help others in the neighborhood. As the intense flames began to move closer, they decided to flee, with each man escaping to his own car. Franklin grabbed Sam, whom he adored and loved as if he was his own dog. Geoff’s vehicle wouldn’t start, so he broke through a window and began crawling on the ground until a police patrol found him. He suffered numerous burns during the incident. Franklin and Sam never made it out.

The following day, Geoff returned to his house and found it was completely destroyed by the flames. During a search for his longtime friend, he discovered the charred remains of Franklin and Sam in the backseat of Franklin’s car. He was lying atop the beloved Golden Retriever, attempting to shield the dog with his own body to protect him. Geoff’s wife told media outlets “He must have seen what was happening, crawled into the hatchback with Sam and laid down on top of him. There’s more of Sam left than there was of Frank.”

Franklin Trejos, a retiree and native of Costa Rica, had lived with his friend Geoff in Lahaina for many years. He was there to help Geoff’s wife out with her seizures when he couldn’t be there. Frankie was remembered as a free spirit, an animal lover, an adventurer, a nature lover and an artist. He was well-known and loved by many in the tight-knit community. Each time that he would walk through town, Frank would stop and make small talk with everyone. Franklin Trejos was 68-years old.

Posted • Gloucester Township Police: Detective Michael McDonnell Last Radio Call June 29, 2023

Effective June 29th 2023, Det. Michael McDonnell, badge number 140, retired after serving 25 years as a Law Enforcement Officer. Det. McDonnell was hired by the Gloucester Township Police Department on August 18th, 1997. Det. McDonnell started his career in the patrol division, was later assigned as a platoon shift investigator, and worked as a Society Improvement Program Officer in the Gloucester Township Schools. He was assigned to the Detective Bureau on July 12, 2014 where he served in the Criminal Investigations Unit.

We are grateful for Det. McDonnell dedicated service to the Gloucester Township Police Department and the community. We wish Det. McDonnell a long and happy retirement!
