Last night the emergency Vet on call called us and let us know that Hope was declining even more. Her blood sugar had dropped drastically throughout the day and she stopped eating. She wasn't getting up to walk and her body was just shutting down. They were afraid that she was going to go septic. We asked the question that we always ask, is she suffering? And the vet told us that she's definitely feeling bad and the last ditch effort was a transfusion but they didn't think it would do any good, so as sad as it made us, and to avoid putting her frail body through and more pain, we had to let her go.
We drove over to Delaware Valley at 10 o'clock last night and sat with her and talked to her and told her what a good girl she is with how much we loved her and we pet her and held her paws and cried while she passed.
Thank you to all who sent love and positive healing to the special girl. We only wish we could've done more. Run free, beautiful Hope.
UPDATE
We learned that she has three different parasites, the hookworm is what probably caused the anemia. She is still hospitalized and obtaining treatment. Hope is doing better, is walking and standing on her own at times, and probably will not need a transfusion. Honestly, parasites are sometimes the best diagnosis one can receive - and its rare that they knock down a larger adult dog. But it happens. It happened here.
I locked down the comments yesterday, not because we did not want to hear your well wishes - we do. However, as set forth below, we need to keep our page positive - because we have heard hundreds of people in the dog world explain how they will not release to rescues for fear of being judged/shamed/getting "in trouble."
We get it, it is super upsetting to see Hope in this position, but we do not want a post seeking prayers and support for this sweet dog who is a hospital favorite (note there was not a donation button linked to her post) to end up causing someone else not to make the call next time there is a need. It is controversial position, some "advocates" hate us for it, and that's ok. But Hope has some hope and is wagging her tail at the veterinary staff, exactly because a human most "advocates" would approach with fire and pitchforks knew to call us and trusted us to take care of her. We prefer the latter. Keep her in your prayers!!

This is Hope. She came into rescue completely emaciated to the point she can't stand up, and she's full of open sores.
Please send some love her way, as she's currently being admitted to the hospital.
Please keep comments positive.
We will get her fixed and we spare no expense.
We want people to call when they need help. Negativity doesn’t actually help this dog and makes it less likely the next person reaches out. Everything we say and do is aimed towards helping the next one who needs help in addition to sweet Hope. Please and thank you!!!
