Seward Historical Society

Seward Historical Society The intent of the Seward Historical Society is to build upon the rich history of the past generations and to educate the generations to come.

The Society has four buildings that house some great examples of what life was like in the township. The main building is the Doctor’s House in the center of town, the old Union Church up by the 12 Mile cemetery, the Burch One Room School House, next to the church and the Seward Train Depot by the tracks. The Dr. House and Church are open for use. We are currently working on the School House and the Depot and we can use all the volunteer help we can get.

We truly appreciate all the donations that have come in so far. We got three out of seven new windows installed and it would be great if we could finish up so there are new windows in the entire apartment. New flooring throughout will be installed Feb 16th. In the meantime we’re painting and fixing all the damaged woodwork. Any donations big or small is appreciated!!

Dr House Museum ~ Seward Historical Society 3107 S. Pecatonica Road PO Box 44 - Seward IL 61077

Dear community members and supporters, WE are reaching out to you on behalf of the Board of Trustees to the Dr House Museum, to share an urgent need within our organization. Our non-profit board manages the apartment located above the Dr House Museum, which helps generate essential income to support our community program and persevere in this important piece of local history. Unfortunately, the most recent tenants have moved out after several months of unpaid rent and have left the apartment in need of significant repairs. The loss of 7 months of rental income, combined with the unexpected cost of refurbishing the space, has created a financial setback for our organization. To move forward, we must address the following, 1. Repairs and refurbishments needed to make the apartment safe and livable 2. Replacement of damaged items 3. Cleaning and restoration to prepare the unit for new tenants 4. Covering the rental income gap caused by non-payment.
We are asking for donations of any amount to help us restore the apartment and continue supporting the work we do for the community. Your contribution, big or small, directly, helps us overcome this unexpected hardship and ensures that we can keep providing programs, preserving local history, and serving our neighbors. If you can donate, please mail a contribution to the address above or contact us for other ways to give. We are grateful for any assistance you can offer. Thank you for your continued support and for being with us during this challenging time. Together we can get this important space repaired and back to serving the mission it was meant for. With appreciation, The Seward Drs House board members – Matt Martin, Barb Hazzard, Kim Johnson, Scott Whitney, Lauran Hazzard, and Dana Franzen
