Husky Education And Rescue Team

Husky Education And Rescue Team H-E-A-R-T is dedicated to saving, rehabilitating and rehoming Siberian Huskies who are in danger of being euthanized in shelters. Probably. Take responsibility.

We are all Volunteers and primarily foster based. Our rescue area is along the east coast, CT to GA with our headquarters MD. WE DO NOT ACCEPT OWNER SURRENDERS! YOUR dog is YOUR responsibility. Do we have more experience in this breed? And guess what... Our advice is free! But it's still your responsibility to put in the work. You made that commitment when you got a dog. And if our advice does not

work, we'll help you find a trainer. Most of YOUR issues are resolved by a Trainer, not a Rescue. A Husky is a living, breathing being with feelings. For breed assistance email [email protected]

Even seasoned Rescuers still occasionally get that one dog who reminds you that no matter how much experience you have, this work can still bring you to your knees.

Back in August 2025, that dog was Nakoa.

When Nakoa first arrived, he was so fragile and so heartbreakingly sick that Aunt Mindy cried the moment she saw him. Both out of sadness and fear. Fear that this sweet boy might not survive. Fear that he might be one of those souls who slipped away despite every ounce of love and skill we poured into him. Fear he would die in her arms.

And for an experienced rescue… that is humbling in a way words barely capture. But Nakoa had other plans!

If you remember, Nakoa was able to be stabilized and has gone on to be adopted by a H-E-A-R-T Volunteer, Diane. This weekend he boarded with us (a service we provide to our families), and watching him now feels like witnessing a miracle in motion.

He is healthy, confident, and self‑assured. He carries himself like a boy who knows he has a future! Seeing him like this… it stops you in your tracks.

Nakoa isn’t just a success story. He’s a reminder. A reminder that sometimes the dogs who scare you the most end up teaching you the most.

Nakoa is now living the life we once weren’t sure he’d get to see, and, it's TRULY humbling.

🐾 PUPDATE: Athena & Iris

When we first met Athena and Iris at the shelter, we were told the girls didn’t get along. Athena was on quarantine after scratching a volunteer, so we couldn’t interact with her directly — but when staff brought her out, we watched Iris’ entire demeanor shift. Something in that moment made us pause. Something told us these two may be misunderstood.

We trusted that instinct… and we’re so glad we did.

Now that they’re safe at the sanctuary, Athena and Iris have shown us they are inseparable. We originally suspected they might be sisters, but the more we observe them, the more they look like a mother/daughter duo. Where one goes, the other goes. When one pees, the other pees. When one eats, the other eats. When one swims, the other swims.

They’re perfectly fine with the other dogs, but their strongest connection — by far — is with each other. We’re hopeful that with time, confidence, and stability, they’ll start branching out socially. But for now, they’re finding comfort in the bond that carried them through the shelter and into safety.

Sometimes you have to trust your gut. And this time, our gut was absolutely right. 💙🐾

Our sweet, social, belly‑rub‑loving girl has officially found her forever family.

After being failed before she even turned seven months old, Suki never stopped greeting the world with joy.

We recently received an application from a family with younger children living in a more urban area. We knew we needed a confident, even tempered Husky and Suki was just the girl.

Cheers to you, Suki. You finally got the forever you deserved. 💙🐾 Happy Tails!

Today, we pause from the zoomies to honor the true meaning of Memorial Day.

All gave some. Some gave all.

At H‑E‑A‑R‑T, we’re grateful for every service member who never made it home—and for the families, both two‑ and four‑legged, who carry their legacy forward. Our Huskies may not understand the weight of this day, but they do understand loyalty, courage, and devotion… qualities our fallen heroes embodied every single day.

Today, we remember. Today, we honor. Today, we give thanks.

Rainy morning at the Rescue Center = indoor Husky cardio hour… which, in Husky terms, means zoomies for three straight hours.

They ran laps. They body‑checked each other. They parkoured.

But don’t worry… after all that indoor exercise, they still managed to convince Aunt Mindy that a walk in the rain was absolutely necessary for their well‑being. 🤣

💙 Adoptable chaos.

Today’s video might look simple, but for Oscar, this is a huge milestone.
When he first arrived, our tiny scavenger had zero impulse control — if something was on the ground, he believed it was his. Every time.

With patience, consistency, and the help of Trainer Glenn, Oscar is learning to pause, think, and choose differently. Watching him work so hard to master “Leave It” has us incredibly proud of how far he’s come.

Oscar will thrive in a patient home that’s willing to keep building on this progress — and enjoy every ounce of his adorable, eternal‑puppy personality along the way.

This little man is trying his best, and it shows.

🎉🐾 What’s better than adopting one dog? Adopting TWO. 🐾🎉

We’re celebrating a double happy ending: Thelma (Mama to the Scooby Doo Litter) and Duke have been adopted — together. They lived in the same foster home and got along beautifully, so seeing them head into the same forever home feels extra special.

But this adoption came with a twist! During their wellness visit, Thelma unexpectedly tested heartworm positive, despite a prior negative test. Unfortunately this can happen — heartworm has an incubation period, and early infections don’t always show up.

But her new family didn't back out. They didn’t hesitate. They chose to move forward with BOTH dogs.

H‑E‑A‑R‑T is helping to support Thelma’s treatment, and we are deeply grateful to their new family for their compassion, commitment, and willingness to stand by her. To stand by them both!!

Here’s to Thelma and Duke — starting their new life side‑by‑side. Happy Tails babies! 🎉🐾
