Pythian Youth Camp

Pythian Youth Camp Since its founding, the Camp has served nearly 300 inner-city children each year, helping them to break the cycles of unhealthy lifestyles and behaviors.

In 1946 the Pythian Youth Camp was carved out of the Sequoia National Forest, which is among the oldest national parks in the United States. The 23 structures that make up this historic wilderness camp are situated on a 19-acre parcel of land that runs along Woodward Creek, and is the nation’s first and only land grant youth camp. The site for the camp was granted to the Pythian Youth Foundation o

f California, under Section 101 (6) of the Internal Revenue Code specifically to build and maintain a camp for underprivileged boys and girls, and to help fight the causes of juvenile delinquency. Since its founding, the Camp has served as a time-out for nearly 300 inner-city children each year, helping them to break the cycles of distress that keeps them focused on unhealthy lifestyles and behaviors.

Made our last trip of the year to the Pythian Youth Camp. Our goal was to inspect the four new roofs we recently had installed and cover a few roofs that still need to be replaced. As usual, we can only make the repairs that we can afford. Being a true non-profit with 100% of all funds raised going towards running the camp and sponsoring children, repairs have to be prioritized. In a normal year, we have issues such as roofs, tree's and plumbing to contend with. This year we were hit with a doozy, our two ten-thousand gallon potable water tanks developed a leak and were deemed unusable because the protective coating has deteriorated over the years. Both tanks will need to be replaced, (at a cost of 60 to 80k) before we can host another child. Come on Lotto!!!

Thank you Orange County Vintage Chevrolet Club of America for your continued sponsorship of the Pythian Youth Camp. We couldn’t send kids to camp without your help!

Sure miss looking up and seeing this every night.

The dark...it can provoke a hundred different feelings. What about finding the light in the dark? This weekend we will be gazing into the sky finding planets, galaxies, stars and more. The Big Trees have been enjoying this view for millennia. You can find the light of the night through the biggest trees on Earth, at this years Dark Sky Fest this weekend!!
