Volunteer Spotlight: Jolie Will 💙

For nearly 19 years, Jolie Will has been a welcoming presence at the clinic’s front desk, serving as a receptionist and helping patients feel at ease from the moment they arrive. Her connection to the clinic began through Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, the original home of the clinic, where she started volunteering in late 2007.

What Jolie values most is knowing that the clinic serves anyone who needs medical attention. She takes great pride in the fact that no one is ever turned away because of their financial situation, insurance status, or circumstances. To her, the clinic represents the very best of volunteerism and humanitarianism—neighbors helping neighbors simply because it’s the right thing to do.

Over the years, Jolie has watched the clinic remain true to its mission, consistently providing free medical care to those who cannot afford it, those who are underinsured, those without a regular physician, travelers, and others in need. She believes the clinic fills a critical gap in the healthcare system and is proud to tell others about the work being done here. Looking ahead, her hope is that the clinic will continue this important mission for many years to come, ensuring that compassionate care remains available to everyone who needs it. 💙

Volunteer Spotlight: Suzanne Plemmons, RN 💙

Suzanne Plemmons has been volunteering with the clinic for about a year, bringing her skills and compassion as a registered nurse to serve members of our community. After moving to Sequim, Suzanne was looking for a meaningful way to give back and found that opportunity at the clinic.

What Suzanne enjoys most is the connection she has built with the staff, fellow volunteers, and patients. She has been especially impressed by the many community organizations and referral resources that partner with the clinic to help meet patients’ needs. Through her volunteer experience, Suzanne says she has become even more compassionate and thankful for the blessings in her own life.

It’s the people she works with and the patients she serves that keep her coming back. Looking ahead, Suzanne hopes the clinic will continue to provide services in the remarkable way it has for the past 25 years, ensuring that compassionate, quality care remains available to those who need it most. 💙

Volunteer Spotlight: Barbara (Barb) Parse 💙

For approximately 22 years, Barbara “Barb” Parse has been a dedicated volunteer, serving as an Assessment Nurse and contributing in many other ways, including helping with Fun Walks and creating beautiful floral arrangements for volunteer appreciation events. Her journey with the clinic began when she was participating in a Fun Walk at Trinity United Methodist Church and was invited to become a volunteer—a decision that has benefited our community for more than two decades.

Barb says she never ceases to be amazed by the gratitude expressed by the patients we serve. One of her favorite experiences has been orienting new volunteers and helping them become part of the clinic family. Through her years of service, she has gained a deeper appreciation for both the tremendous needs that exist in our community and the meaningful impact that compassionate volunteers can have in meeting those needs.

The patients, volunteers, and staff are what keep Barb coming back year after year. She has witnessed remarkable growth, from the clinic’s early days in a small house to the spacious facility we occupy today, as well as the addition of our Chronic Health Care Clinic. Looking ahead, Barb hopes that as long as healthcare needs exist in our community, the clinic will continue to have the support necessary to meet them. She also wants to recognize Clinic Director Rose Gibbs, whose support of volunteers and dedication to patients have helped make the clinic the special place it is today. 💙

Volunteer Spotlight: Carolyn DeSalvo, MD 💙

Dr. Carolyn DeSalvo has been volunteering as a provider with the clinic since August 2018, bringing both experience and compassion to the patients she serves. Having previously worked at a similar clinic in Kansas, she was eager to continue giving back after moving to Sequim. She first connected with the clinic after meeting former Medical Director Dr. Kip Tulin at the Fun Walk, where the conversation naturally turned toward volunteering.

What Dr. DeSalvo enjoys most is the people—patients, staff, and fellow volunteers alike. Over the years, she has built relationships with several “regular” patients who often come in when she is working, creating meaningful continuity of care. She shares that volunteering has been a humbling experience, especially meeting hardworking individuals who are struggling despite their resilience and positive attitudes.

It’s the people and the tremendous need in the community that keep her coming back. Looking ahead, Dr. DeSalvo hopes to see the clinic continue to grow so it can serve even more members of our community in the years to come.
